half a year is tolerable, yeah hope it dips to 300sgd.

half a year is not likely...perhaps you have to wait for a year...unless you get 2nd hand, then maybe half a year can get at 300.

Thought I should share this with you guys.

Went down to John 3:16 just now, and the price for the 35mm f/1.8g is $335, but Samuel advised me against this lens. Suggested me to get the 35mm f2 or the Sigma f/1.4. I will nonetheless be bringing down my D90 to test the lens next week as it is out of stock at the moment.

That's a good price. Did you ask him why?

335 is with or without gst ?
ya, since you have a d90 with built-in motor on board, perhaps the AF-D 35mm f2 is a better choice.
the 35mm f1.8 is more for d40/60 users.

He mention that the build is poor, and not worth spending on.

is with gst. but in any case, the 35mm f2 is still for FX.

Perhaps we are seeing the first of Nikon's modern equivalent of its old Series E MF lenses of many years ago? In this case, looks like they have not sacrificed IQ but used more plastic to bring the cost down. Just a guess.

Hope someone can do a side by side comparison of the 35mm AFD vs AFS DX.

was at the IT Show and a guy named Clayton (from Edison electronics) manning the Nikon booth offered $335 for the 35mm 1.8, ready stock.

How much more for the AF-D 35mm f2 compare with 35mm f1.8?

$335 is a good price if gst is included.

How come another guy told me that the lens is $399?!!! O-o;
This shows that they don't know their stuff well lol...

Hmm...when John 3:16 replied my email today, they said that the lens is not out yet in SG....:dunno: so...who's right here? ;p

it's definitely out, saw one in cathay someone was trying it. so that mail maybe outdated. 335 is a good price. i think the 35mmf2 is about 400 - 450sgd. the sigma is a lot more, i think maybe 550 - 650sgd. but the f1.4 is attractive.

 hmmm tried it out at AP, didnt buy coz he is quite insistent about the pricing, 380 and tts the "best".. so i shall wait hahaha

focusing speed rocks, ok i don have a AFS lens haha..

apparently only few shops allocated to get 1 unit of 35mm f/1.8G. Managed to get 1 from Marina CP @ 350nett today.

gotta correct you there. Samuel said 580 for 35mm f2 and 700+ for sigma f/1.4 but he is very supportive of the Sigma though.

hmm... i'm d90 user too. also considering between 35mm f2 and f1.8....

the 35mm f2 is a higher priced model as lime touch says, i do remember cathay quoting me 460sgd for that there. should be the afd. anyway the main diff i see is the f2 is an fx lens with a lil lower quality compared to the f1.8 and of cos f1.8 vs f2.

the other difference is prolly the close focus distance and magnification. i think the f2 is 25cm while the f1.8 is 29cm. I'm using the older 35mm, not the afs and i think the 25cm is very nice, esp for self photo and some half decent close ups.

so why the price for f1.8 is cheaper than f2 while f2 is an fx lens with a lil lower quality compared to the f1.8.
r u using 35mm f2 afd?

Got my 35mm 1.8 yesterday too. Great lens !

Think all the people who say that AFD f/2 is way better haven't tried them both...

It's cheaper, lighter (by a bit), focuses quietly, better handling in terms of manual focusing --- wider ring + no ring rotation means you hold the camera more firmly.
Wide open at 1.8, its plenty sharp and seems sharpest at f4.0 (although most probably buy this lens to use at 1.8 / 2 only).

imho, if you use DX and don't intend to upgrade till FX prices become reasonable...... go get one, don't need to think so much, you'll be satisfied !

If you can afford FX now, then probably you won't even be asking which to get ! :D

the 35mmf1.8 is an awesome lens, i would get it too. maybe in awhile when the price stabilizes. im using the old 35mm af f2. no d for the camera to understand.

i say that the f2 is lower in image quality cos i think someone pointed out that the mtf and chroma for the f1.8 is actually slightly better than the f2 prolly cos it's optimized for dx.

yeah the old 35mmf2 does focus very loudly. don't know if it's spoilt or not. haha.
