apparently only few shops allocated to get 1 unit of 35mm f/1.8G. Managed to get 1 from Marina CP @ 350nett today.
was at the IT Show and a guy named Clayton (from Edison electronics) manning the Nikon booth offered $335 for the 35mm 1.8, ready stock.
Thought I should share this with you guys.
Went down to John 3:16 just now, and the price for the 35mm f/1.8g is $335, but Samuel advised me against this lens. Suggested me to get the 35mm f2 or the Sigma f/1.4. I will nonetheless be bringing down my D90 to test the lens next week as it is out of stock at the moment.
gotta correct you there. Samuel said 580 for 35mm f2 and 700+ for sigma f/1.4 but he is very supportive of the Sigma though.
Oohh!! i remember dealing with this guy before!! Nice chap very helpful if Edison electronics have it then might head down to get mine soon
Any idea if all these places still have this lens at the said price?? Been waiting to get this lens ever since i knew about it!!! Anyone using it on a D90? How does it fair?
I think MS Colour @ AMK got 1 unit.... you may want to call them first 6457 6380
just got the lens at the show from the Nikon booth (just bit the bullet la, planning to use on a wedding and trip coming up next week) all I can say is I'm really quite impressed with the lens, did a very simple non-scientific and unprofessional test to show the lens' sharpness.
warning: picture is kinda huge for the benefit of pixel-peepers

i think there's still stock cos based on the general sentiment of the CS-ers here, everyone's holding out for stocks to trickle down to their fave camera shops =) anyway the listed is $399 I got a slightly better price at the Nikon booth (read: close to what most of the reputable shops are already offering) you just have to be willing to ask for a better price.otherwise, there's the option of waiting it out if you don't require the lens immediately..
sweet! thanks i'll give them a call maybe make my way down to the IT show tmr... who knows??? last day maybe they let go @ $300??? hahahaha wishful thinking ba...

Went down today... no more stock!!! but i asked the guy how much it cost and he also told me 399 but he said tht's for show price. He asked me to try the shop next week or so coz now out of stock. Price will be better.
50mm is about 75mm on a DX body. 35mm is wider.just to ride on this thread, is the view of the 35mm DX and 50mm AFD on d40 about the same? or different?? as in the real focal length, cos 35 when cropped is 52.5mm, so the 50mm afd on a DX cam is still 50 or must factor in the 1.5x? thanks.

All lenses are marked in real focal length, does not matter DX or FX.
So 35mm DX has focal length of 35mm, the same as 35mm FX.
When used on DX cameras, 35mm DX and FX lenses gives 35mm x 1.5 FOV (that's field of view). When used on FX cameras, 35mm DX and FX lenses give 35mm FOV, although the DX lens will not cover the whole frame so you end up with a black area surrounding the resulting image.
50mm f/1.8 when used on DX gives FOV of 75mm.
So 35mm DX is not the same as 50mm FX when you talk about lens markings.
35mm DX gives similar FOV as 50mm FX, when 35mm DX is used on DX camera and 50mm FX is used on FX camera.
Don't know how to put this simpler...
