Um actually, both are sharp. AF speed does not help in sharpness, AF accuracy does. :bsmilie:

As you have use this lens before, do you feel the AF accuracy difference for SWD and non-SWD version?
While I have the 12-60 SWD i feel it stick to focus much better than kit lens. However it should compare to similar older brother 14-54 I or II, which I don't own any to try.

I only compare in shop and never technical as both done at different shop, have not spend much time. Both can hunt for focus esp at 200mm but I found SWD hunt on less occassion (despite tested later - and at HN@Funan - ie basement - less light, but I tested by zooming on various brightness).
Both find it hard if I tried to auto-focus using SAF at the center for reflection, but again SWD can find focus faster.
If you are not in a hurry, and you are in Singapore, may be we can meet at next Kopi Session and ask someone to bring their non SWD and you can compare? :)

just curious if anyone bought from OP? inquired on the Sigma 30mm but they need to bring it in.

Was quoted grey set at $720 and local at $780 abt a month ago.

I asked today as i think i wanna buy this Sigma 30mm f1.4 nxt. Was quoted $730 with 2 yr agent warranty.

I saw in HK $650+, but this lens so notorious for having some front back focusing issues that need caliberating at the agent, so not much choice... 2 yrs warranty is better than no warranty. :bsmilie:

Go ahead if you want, but do search for posting about Sigma warranty.
You have been warned.

To me, best is to get something that has no problem in the first place. Why have to go thru the difficulty of fixing problem when it can be avoided? :dunno:

Granted not everybody experience is the same. Some people praise sony support standard but I only have bad words for their support. :(

thanks thanks aryanto, you are so nice a person for the offer of help
in fact i just got this lens for about a week plus.
I had try a few different occasion with E510, it seems at night low light and with 200mm zoom, definitely it will hunt, sometimes forever hunting then stop some don't know where.
But if you pay a little bit patient, look for a better lighted place, it will focus much much faster than kit lens for sure.
this is a nice lens no doubt

A cookie for Aryanto! Good one bro. That is the spirit in this place.

thanks for clearing the air Aryanto. I was thinking about getting the 50-200 SWD but its a bit out of my reach. While the non swd ones are good, i have yet to see myself using both of them and do a blind test.;) side by side.

May be you check 2nd hand from time to time.
I seriously had some facepalm moments.
I bought new then on that same day later I checked and someone selling 2nd hand but was immediately bought. So this is highly sought after lense as 2nd hand then (dec 2008)

i was lucky then before my trip to grab a good second hand 50-200swd, it is a great lens to use for telephotos:bigeyes:

some while ago in march alan photo has some promotion to clear the 50-200 non swd stock, if u want to get new old stock may be can give them a call.

Hi All,

May I know currently how much is Sigma 30mm F1.4? Is it worth buying for indoor shooting especially baby? Heard that this lens has front back focusing issue. May I know is this issue solve by Sigma? If I buy now (current batch), do I need to go to Sigma Spore for calibration? May I know where is the center? Thanks.

note: I'm new. Maybe someone already ask before.... but can't find it...

Thanks.

I depends, if you're lucky, you might not need calibration.

From pictures, this lens is soft wide open and stopping down will definitely help much.

If you have the budget, try the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4. :) Tack sharp wide open. :bsmilie: Poisonous.

Thanks....

So how much is the Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4? And also for the Sigma 30mm F1.4? Went to SimLin.... they doesn't carry Sigma 30mm F1.4 FT/Olympus mount.... majority canon and Nikon mount.....

Thanks....

The Leica 25mm f/1.4 is approx. S$1000++ LOL. Will probably cost twice as much as the Sigma

Please do not go to shops at Sim Lim. Go to more reputable shops, as shops at Sim Lim are known to rip you off, besides Orient Photo.

Do a search and see which shops are worth patronising. Try Cathay Photo, John 3:16, or Orient Photo (gray lens), they might have. :)

Haha so i manage to posion you on the 25/30mm F1.4 izit? :bsmilie: Frankly... I am looking for one too. John 3:16 and MsColor dun keep stock for Sigma 30mm 4/3 mount and you had to order. Orient Photo may have those grey sets... Panny 25mm is even harder to find...

Ha you are right .... poisoned for Sigma 30mm f1.4..... What worry me most is the front back focusing issue. As newbie like me dunno how to verify the issue if gone one. What is the photo/image look like if the issue exist? Pls advise...

Thanks....

Here! For Pentax but i think it work for all camera. There are some chart you can download too. To test the lens at shop, bring a 30cm ruler, aim at 15cm mark camera at 45 degree angle, take a shot and see whether the focus point is before, on the dot or after the 15cm mark. Remember to set camera to ctr point focus!

Remember reading here that Sigma will calibrate your lens for free. Will definitely be doing that if I get a Sigma.

Went to OP yesterday, was quoted $750 for the 30mm f1.4, with local warranty. However, it will have to be ordered, and take 2 weeks to arrive!

Interestingly, the 18-50mm f2.8 is the same price...

E30 + 14-54 mkII bundle - $2100. Cathay Photo

Thanks.... Seem like most of the shops (AP, MS Colour, OP) are selling >$730... Surprisingly Song Brother at SimLin quoted me for ~$690 while I window shopping there, but they don't have stock. Hmmm... dunno true or not.... never hear anyone go there for camera shopping before, unless tourist.

in Sim Lim Square, shop who dont have stock always give you best quote, then tell you to buy their other things, try to confuse you and earn more profit. :dunno:
