[ Coming Product ] : Panasonic GH2

Its weird that they offer body only option in Germany. i.e when the box is open you don't see the 14-42mm. Its just the body alone. Hmmm...I wonder why this option is not offered at all since the 1st m4/3 adopters already have some (or many) lenses. Not sure what Panny's marketing department is thinking.

Singapore's a small country, and thus ranks low on the list when it comes to getting anything.

B & H is selling it for about US1500 for the body with the 14-140 and US999 for the body with the 14-42. Adding DHL charges, still cheaper than local at present.

erm add freight fee and tax... it will be more...

to be more exact 1499 X 1.07 (GST) = 1603.93 + $64.03 (freight) = 1667.96 USD

Credit card exchange rate is slightly higher then the 1.3 exchange rate. lets say optimistically 1.31 SGD to 1 USD

1667.96 X 1.31 = $2185.03 SGD

any item above 400 dollars is subjected to singapore GST :P

Anyway its good that Pansonic is not forcing to buy the 14-140mm with the GH-2. They "at least" gave the option to offer the GH-2 with the 14-42mm. Anyway better than just one choice. :P If you do not need the 14-140mm or you already have, just buy the GH-2 with the 14-42mm kit and then later buy the 14-140mm if you do not have. Alot are on sale in the B&S section.

If they had insisted on bundling it with the 14-140mm instead of giving consumers two options then they would have lost quite a number of customers.
Consider most are probably upgraders instead of first timers.

I just wonder does the 14-42 produce a better IQ than 14-45 or not?
Time to use the search function.

loneWolff,

I thought your GH1 was unhackable after your 1.34 firmware upgrade. You mean the latest Ptools manage to do it?

I'll probably buy the GH2 with the 14-42 kit and then sell off the lens. Wonder how much is the 14-42mm kit lens worth? Anyone know the price?

I look at the postings on dpreview and etc websites, it the 14-42mm does look very sharp on the GH-2. Not sure about 14-45mm. But I wonder why Panny made the decision to go down to 42mm. Some inconsistency in PQ at the 45mm point?

Oh well, now i hope by Feb the 3rd party battery makers can make some affordable batteries for the GH-2 and that will really make it a camera for the masses. :bsmilie:

Just came back from Funan, TK photo has the GH2 kits, 14-42mm at $1399 and 14-140 at $2099 nett comes with std freebies. Good pricing.

Hi.. I thought they only charge 7% GST on the amount ABOVE $400.. i.e. the first $400 is GST Exempt.

Nopes. Anything above 400bucks GST is chargable. Regardless first or not.

Price wise quite consistent with AP SLS when I enquired yesterday. Guess it applies to the usual retailers as well.

Yes sibeiblur, the latest firmware 1.40d's prevent version compare did the thing for me.
Unfortunately I'm faced with a new challenge, my sandisk class 10 sometimes cannot substain a recording without having write error.

Actually how you upgrade your GH1 to 1.34? Is it by default? Or you sent it for servicing and it got updated to 1.34?

I think by then BnS will be flooded with 14-42mm because all lot of upgrader will be selling it off from their package...

And I'll might be one of them... haha..

Btw is the GH2 readily available in shop already?

Think most local shops have. You should not missed it. I seen a few of them putting the GH-2 on display last weekend.

Anyway the 14-42mm if you get a suitable ultrawide converter with 52mm threads, you might be able to get decent 18.5mm to 21mm. ;)

Btw anyone know the local GH2 is made in Japan or China...?

Unless you get from Japan, their units I heard its made in Japan. Rest of the world is China. Last time the 1st batch of GH-1 which came into Singapore was made in Japan but subsequently all are from China.

So, it would be cheaper and employment up in china and low in own countries.
