There were alot of "first" here for Pentax.
1. Biggest Stand I have seen for Pentax
2. Biggest crowd. There are actually alot of people crowding around checking out the cameras. One guy even bought a PnS in front of me. The fact that the salespeople were quite aggressive in pushing sales help. It was like you check out the camera and they keep on saying "ok, sir?". "I take one set for you now, Sir?". etc
3. First time I see they employed some MCs to generate some interest. But no models...in fact except for a few dressed up ladies giving out brochures here and there, there were no models around for phototaking.
I can't make up my mind yet, so will wait till 8pm on Sunday to squeeze out the last minute bargains.
I was looking at the E50 but they kept on pushing the Z10 to me instead. Even Kelvin who was there strongly recommended it as value-for-money. That's because this camera was $499 normal retail price now selling at $199.
But I think in terms of performance it will not be much different from the $169 E50. The price difference is attributed to the fact the camera is able to perform simple photo editing in-camera, including cropping, contrast, brightness, etc. Plus its more sleek. But that thick lens cover is a turn off though. Wonder why it had to be so thick, not consistent with the rest of the slim body. I am stuck between the $139 fuji A850, Pentax E50 or Z10. The fuji is slimmer and cuter, which my kid would like...will wait till sunday to see how is the closing pricing and stocking level.
The 200mm lens looked interesting with that huge hood but Kelvin was called away, so I did not manage to check it out...
BTW, no one mentioned Samsung. They booked an entire corner to show their range and had their GX20 on sale. The moment they realised the K20D also selling at $2200+, they immediately dropped threir prices by $100! But overall, the pentax is more worth it. At $2299, you get an additional 75-300 lens whereas Samsung provides for a spare battery instead.
For lenses.... man...they are earning the same reputation as Sony...the prices of the lenses are so C-ish or sonyish... A 35mm F2 is $729. Their 16-45mm is $819. And the 18-55mm kit lens is $329! night86mare's favourite length, the 12-24 F4 is $1399!
