Do you normally crop the image or do you normally leave it to the developers.

interesting....
does it mean that they only do film and cannot handle digital format?

also, can you give the address and prices?

cheers :)

For those sending digital photos to Colourlab, I have come to realise that Adobe Photoshop 6 and 7 will retain the Exif info on your file, even if you Save As. If you have only done colour changes, touch-ups etc, not an issue, but if you have cropped, then it becomes a big problem. Here is my analysis:

1. Original 1024 x 768 image.

2. In Photoshop, cropped to 1024 x 683 to make 4R ratio of 3:2. But the original Exif info retained, and the file is interpreted as 1024 x 768. If you use a text editor to read the image file, you may be able pick up the number.

3. When the Fuji program at Colourlab opens the image, it takes the size from the Exif info of 1024 x 768, and put the image at the top, giving a black band of 768 - 683 = 85 pixels at the bottom.

4. When they print, they print the middle portion of your image, hence cropping off the top 43 pixels of your image and adding 43 pixels of black at the bottom.

Work-around: Crop your image, then copy all and paste to new file and save, this will ensure that no Exif info is stored to confuse the Fuji software. I also crop my pictures, then use JPEGResizer to 'resize' once and save at 95% quality (no visible loss) which will lose the Exif info.

I have only sent to Colourlab for Fuji prints so far. I believe that this problem is prevalent in all Fuji shops.

I never ever trust the shop assistant and advise pple to :

(a) Always crop to the desired R-size.
(b) Always have the correct number of images to print in terms of file. (eg if u need duplicates, just do a simple file copy so u end up with a duplicate file)
(c) If u have complex requirements from different paper (glossy vs matte) and different sizes, create a directory (named appropriately) and tell them to print everything in the directoy as named.

This is after using the minilab software and observing how the guys print in the shop with switching of cartridges.

Thanks, but I called Digipro and they said that they were able to print everything but the 2 sides will be white ... which I think is ok ... I just need to do some triming of my own. May go to the shop next week for printing.

BTW, I used to stay in Marine Crescent B43 ... so we may also have been neighbours ... but that was in the 80s ... still miss the food there ...

Regarding the the aspect ratio (white borders), it depends on your camera. For my D60, the ratio is perfect straight from the camera for 4R (3:2). No cropping required.

This unfortunately is not true for my G2.

E-color

The E-Colour is very very good quality.

Cheap too

> 100 pieces
$0.30 each for 4R

< 100 pieces
$0.40 each for 4 R

No development charge. Thumbs up thumbs up

to everyone that went to digipro,
do you have a time frame to actually use up the remaining coupons? like behind the coupon, theres's a date stamped on it.

Hmmm....
Is E-Color using a Gretag machine, or Frontier? I pass by that area quite a lot lately.....

So far, I've been using Kim Tian Color (at Upp Cross St) and Miao Lann Color (at Bt Batok). Both are printing on Frontiers and they don't charge me handling fee. Service is very good, esp at Kim Tian Color, and they've done a 36"x28" for me just yesterday...

I've heard of HotPrint also, but dunno where they really are.....

Wah now still got agra lab

actually any lab u know well can be taken as good

There is this shop at Toa Payoh Central that does digital print for S$0.35, no handling but min is 30pcs otherwise it is 40 cents. Waiting time is 1 week.

I have not tried them

Just to share with you guys that Standard Photo has opened a bigger outlet at Junction 8 Basement 1.

Just sent a batch to print and discovered they changed their pricing structure.

1. Handling charge of $5 removed
2. Minimum print of 20 pcs for non-members
3. 4R price increased from 35 cents to 40 cents
4. Now supports matt finishing
5. One day turnaround for print jobs instead of one week.

NSman gets 15% discount by showing the NScard.

Try to do your own cropping and colour corection, adjustments etc beforehand and tell the sales person to print without any adjustment to ensure the print comes out as you want them.

I have so far been happy with the service offered.
