I believe that Cathay Photos sells one of the R-straps. It was listed as $80+ or something.

Well, not much diff in cost as it is retail at USD48 in US. Good stuff if you have the need or $$ to spare.

I believe this serve good for the Sports or Events photog.

I think i just get the crumpler strap..hehe .. quite comfy.

I'm using the crumpler, much better than the canon one. But a bit bulky though.

It might be worth it to either call them to get a quote or go down personally. The $80 aws the price on the tag. I went there to get the op-tech camera strap and the price tag showed $59 but I asked them and they quote me $29.

hi guys,

long time, no chat. I'm busy to my neck. Anyways, I saw you all discuss about this strap. Hmm, in my humble opinion, our 1000D is quite light. Even with our battery grips and two batts. The 1DsMkIII is about 2 kg. Hence the necessary comfy strap.

For the ultimate shiok experience, I recommend the Canon EOS Vest. I can easily carry and interchange four lenses with the vest. There's even a slot where a tripod can be slipped in! Ultimate flexibility, comfortable and efficient lens-changing all-in-one. Cheap only 30$.

I'll bring it this Sunday... Check it out and decide.

I like the vest too, but they dont have the small size le. Medium too big for me, tried it on and I look as if I 'borrowed' it.

Hi, 1000D users. Need advice.

Is it worth it to pay perhaps $200 more to get a Canon 450D over a 1000D instead? I know the key difference lies in the LCD size... and spot metering.. megapixel (negligible factor I think). Me still trying to do some research in choosing which model to buy.

hi bro if you are not tight on money , then get the 450D. if u are on budget 1000D is good enough. :)

For me, skip 450D, get 1000D and play with it, save money to buy better lenses and then if your interest grow and feel like upgrading to a new camera, jump straight to 50D.

Surf the forum, saw guys here took nice photos on a 50mm f1.8 lenses they bought at around $100++ after tired on the kit lens. I bought my 1000D 3 weeks ago and itchy already in getting new lenses...

But again, if money is not a problem and buying lenses will not be an issue, then go for 450D.

2cents

if budget permits, 450D. else, 1000D.

bro scorpiocjs,

you should ask yourself this simple questions.

1. "What is my budget?"
2. "Do I need those extra functions in 450D or should i just settle with something basic?"
3. "What the hell is spot metering?"
4. "Do i need a lighter DSLR or a heavier ones?

If you have no tight budget, if you want something more than 1000D and of course, if you know what is spot metering, then i suggest you buy 450D. but if you want something lighter, than i suggest you but 1000D

To me, spot metering is a good function that the 1000D lack of. That's all...

Why I buy 1000D over 450D?

1. It's the photographer not the camera that makes good pics.
2. My wife tell me to get the cheapest.
3. $200 can be saved to buy my second or even third lens.
4. Not much difference between 1000D and 450D.

a. 10MP vs 12MP
b. No spot metering vs spot metering
c. Both are considered entry-level

5. Once the camera limits my creativity, I'll jump straight to semi-pro. E.g 50D, 60D etc...

Cheers,

mahathir

Thanz for all the advice. Yes, budget is definitely one issue to consider. If not for the simple Live View option, i would have jump for Nikon D60. The Canon 450D 3.0" LCD screen is very attractive.. gd to have though not exactly necessary. My last consideration would be the 'spot metering' function.

I know it's kinda a silly question. Me juz sold my Canon Powershot S2 IS where I normally use the Spot metering function. Canon 1000D comes with centre weighted function instead. Can anyone tells me the difference?

Why not D60? If you intend to use live view, why bother getting a DSLR in the first place?

Hi Scorpio,

You are the first person I heard to use spot metering very often. Most of us use evaluative metering most of the time.

However no question is a silly question... spot-metering covers about 5 to 10% of the area at the center for exposure metering. whereas center weighted average covers about 25-50% of the area from the center for exposure metering. Correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

However there are various ways to overcome the lack of spot metering. You can always

a. use fill-in flash to light up a dark subject infront of bright background
b. zoom-in, take metering using center-weighted average, lock the exposure and zoom out. That's manual spot metering - 1000D style.
c. and other ways i not yet mastered hence I cannot describe.

Cheers,

mahathir

P.S If you took a great picture with a basic 1000D, it speaks volumes of your skill!
