Can't help but to voice my frustration at oly sg and the shop I ordered from. Oly for the Delay of the silver body and the inflexibility of the shop I ordered from to refund my deposit so I can source for another body elsewhere. Stuck now without a em-5- for my Japan trip end April. Zzz :-\

It's totally Oly's fault for such a long gap between product launch/announcement and product availability. And then dunno why silver body must take so long to arrive here.

fight for a refund and go buy in Japan better. Or change to black lor, is very nice in black too. As i mentioned before some places collect deposit yet stock in slower than those simply reserve a set by sms, sigh!

Can't help but wanting to point out -

Canon announce 1D-X last October, and still awaiting market launch timing? US timing probably around July?

Let's not blame Olympus in this case, I'm sure they didn't expect the overwhelming demand worldwide and are having problems meeting to it. In Europe, they're giving away free battery grip for preorders as part of an aggressive campaign.

What to do? Use other cameras first, or if desperate enough, import in?

Did u happen to order from SLR?

Luckily i decided to go with black. Silver not worth the wait. Hehe.

I think maybe the demand for silver is overwhelmed?

I got mine yesterday, the body is really well made and solid. I dare say that build quality is even better than the Sony Nex 7. The humming is very obvious, I can hear it about 2 feet away but it is not annoying, sounds like a computer fan. The size is a little small for my hands, I was cramping after about 15 minutes, definitely need the handgrip.

In my opinion, best m43 camera to date. My previous favorite was the GH2.

Let's not blame oly. Panasonic took 5 to 6 months from announcement (sep 10) to having stock in sg (feb 11). Oly IMHO is already faster than canon, sony ( nex 7/ A77) panny (gh2)..

Hi, anyone preordered from SLRR received a call from them yet?

Just to clarify:

1) Regarding Oly etc. its understandable as it is a new product but i guess the hype and the fact that Terada-san mentioned availability of stocks end Mar early Apr for SG is what got my expectations up.

2) Refund for a deposit is also something i am questioning...not too sure about consumer protection laws/regulations here but shouldn't deposits be refundable esp if the reason is a solid one i.e. delay of product/no stock?

3) I had thought of getting it from overseas or trying my luck to see if shops have a piece ready but problem is point 2 i.e. cannot get refund -_-

1. It is not wrong to announce products early to capture buyer's attention. Canon is taking its own sweet time to deliver the flagship 1DX. Panasonic showed us the f/2.8 zooms last year but pre-production sets are nowhere to be seen. Look further: the first Nissan GTR concept car was shown in 2001, the second concept car in 2005, and the production car hit the road only in Dec 2007.

2. Olympus is not Apple. It does not control its contract manufacturers in China and is also at the mercy of logistic companies. Even Apple delayed the white iPhone 4 for many months.

So let's stop barking up the wrong tree and stop bashing Olympus. It deserves credit for such a design in this digital age. The fault lies with over-promising retailers who took your deposit money.

Regarding #2... If the retailer told you clearly that the delivery date is uncertain, and that the deposit is non-refundable before you paid it, then you cannot demand it back. Put yourself in the retailer's shoes: You ordered these products based on the deposits given by the customers. Now the customer wants to back out of the deal due to no fault on your part. How would you feel?

For #3... Just take a small hit and sell the set brand new when it arrives. I think it will be very easy given the strong demand. In fact the shop should be able to sell your set within days since it is so damn popular. MSC for example didn't even ask me for a deposit cos they know they can sell the set anyhow. But of course I exercised my option and bought it.

Where can I get my hands on a black OMD with 12-60 lens without pre order now????

I think somebody is selling his set on BnS because he decides to buy silver instead.

Don't know if anyone is interested but saw a few copies of the OM-D at Artworkfoto. Not sure of colour and price. This was about 3pm today.

I just called them up also. Only dual lens kit available.

Try eBay or a Japanese dealer's website. You'll pay a premium, plus taxes, import duty and maybe a brokerage fee.

That one hor...I rather wait lor. LOL Maybe the new stocks come in, my set still in the plane flying.

Just called MS Color. Apparently, they have stocks coming in again for Monday for Black Body + Kit Lens. Left my name there. Hoping for good news if I did not get to lay my hands on the EM5 set by this weekend.

Just received call from slr rev. Going to collect my OMD after work.
