Hey, didn't know you got a DA70 already. It's a good lens I'm sure, that's the only one that I haven't put my hands on yet ;p

For all other new Pentax users, go and get one (or all) of those DA limited lenses, and you'd love your Pentax even more :D

Fengwei, don't get overly excited.. :) I was talking about getting my FA77 since he wrote DA77, and not refering to DA70. Heee I have no plan to get DA70 yet. But I am getting the DA21 before CNY so that I can go round snapping group/gathering photo.

cheerss..

Okay, the FA77 is a great one too, one of the best portrait lenses imo.

I had the DA21 for about a month, a great little lens. But I felt I didn't use wide angle that often. But when I do, I prefer even wider. So I sold it off and bought a DA14 instead :)

Yes, FA77 one of the greatest lens around. But personally, I feel that my M85/2 can perform much better at times. Or perhap, I haven't shoot a lot with the FA77 yet. If it is not because I want the AF capability, I probably won't have spent a 'kilo' to get the FA77.

I think it is personally preference of how wide you want your perspective to be. I wanted a 16mm prime which has a 24mm perspective. But I don't see any decent AF 16mm around. So I decide to get the cute DA21 first. While using my Zeniter fisheye 16mm to cover a 24mm perspective when I want it.

For me, I think the DA14 at 20mm equv is little too wide when taking picture of building in Europe. I have captured lot of european buildings with my M28/2.8 when I was using film. My friend who use nikon with his 24mm has even better perspective captured when we snapped from the exact same spot. Don't under estimated the 4mm difference, it really feel differently. Again, this is personal preference. I find that 24mm equv is really just the 'right' one for architectural shoot, especially in europe. :)

Dun seem real cheap for a 2nd hand to me hehe.

Hmmm gonna save up before buying ar.
I would guess DA40 is cheapest among the DA limited lens.
I plan on buying the FA50/1.4 so i am wondering if it both lens are rather too similiar.

Both lenses are not similar in anyway even when the focal length is near to each other. Depend on what you want out of the lens, I suggest that you probably wouldn't want to compare the FA50/1.4 to DA40. FA50/1.4 may be compare to FA77/1.8 instead. The bokeh that you can get from 50/1.4 is in no way that DA40 is going to give. If you want to have a fast lens for both indoor and outdoor portrait, the extra stops of light from f/1.4 really helps a lot when you do natural light photography. But in many occassion, stopping down the 1.4 a little more will be even better.

As for the DA40 Ltd, I think it is in another class of its own. Being small, compact, cute, well build and having a style of its own. That is what its being designed for. In team of sharpness and bokeh, I have yet to see that its able to perform. I am not saying that its not a good lens. It is a very good lens, just a matter of what you are going after in term of 'good'.

Hope I didn't confuse you..

In that case, go w/ a DA40 lah. You won't be disappointed ;) If like 50mm, get a cheaper manual one to play. For real use, DA40 is alot easier to carry around imo. Better buy something you'd like to use and carry. If you put an FA50 and DA40 side by side, you won't like those cheap plastic FA lenses :bsmilie: Cheers!

I have actually already ordered the FA50/1.4 so might not be buying DA40 for now even thou its really a good pancake.
I am more looking to the upcoming DA35 instead, tks for all the advices.

Hi, where did you order from and how long does it take to arrive? I'm thinking of getting FA50/1.4 for low light/portrait and DA21 for walkaround/gatherings..

Both are exellent lenses. If I were you, I'd get the DA40 (much smaller, cheaper, faster AF ...). You won't be disappointed with either one. I got both, but I carry DA40 alot often nowadays. The FA43 is more or less a collector's item (so I can have one full set of FA LTD lenses).

Cheers!

Thanks a lot, Fengwei!

If you can actually find a shop still with stock in Singapore that is...:bheart:

I called every major camera shop in SG and none of them have ready stock for the 77mm lens... Oh well.

I hope you can have lots of luck in getting the FA77 ltd. It seems like this lens is out-of-stock everywhere. I think they just couldn't build enough for the stronger demand these days. The black one are more difficult to get nowaday because they are keeping them for their own japanese market. bhphoto don't seem to take back-order for the black 77 anymore.

Hopefully with Hoya, Pentax is able to build more lenses for the bigger demand. :)
