Hi there

i am quite keen to explore buying the 7D body from JB as I pop over now and then. Could you share with me which are the most reasonable shops that you have frequented before and itys location.

Thanks for your help.

Peter

Having just returned from Hong Kong, I believe it's Hong Kong :)

That said, I'm off to the US in 2 weeks so I'll go sniff around there too :)

It all depends on where you go in the States. New York is about the best place to go. Adorama and B&H are the top two outlets.... well known, reliable and best prices.

Thanks, Raydio :)

Unfortunately, it'll be the west coast for me (SF) but I'll go scout around :)

Technospaz (love the name): Let us know how it goes in SF. Hopefully there are good deals there too. :)

Hands down Hong Kong is the cheapest place.

Check this website for updated prices.

Buy 行 or "Hong" goods i.e. from authorised dealers rather than grey import. Grey import may be cheaper but no warranty. "Hong" goods from Canon HK office come with international warranty.

Avoid the shady shops at Tsim Sha Tsui.

I recommend Man Shing/Wing Shing at Mongkok (same company different branches).

Hi all, by your experience buying lens overseas, let' say i would like buy the lens from HK, do i have to declare the amount and pay the GST at Singapore airport ?

Hong Kong is the best to buy camera related stuffs (body and lens) as their tax there is very low.

Agree wholeheartedly. I used to live in Hong Kong and got scammed very badly by one of these shops. Never again.

Yes, these are the best that Hong Kong has to offer. They are very good. Mong Kok is the best place to shop for photographic items. Stanley Street on Hong Kong Island is also reputable but the shops are smaller.

There are a few shops that sell in JB itself, 15 minutes away from causeway. Don't need to go up to KL. Best of all, the service center for Canon is also only around 20-30 minutes drive from the causeway, and is a place which I frequent every other week, so can utilise the 3 years warranty without worries. Of course some of you may worry abt the safety of going to JB. If you belong to that category, please give my post a miss ;)

Do note that generally, lenses are cheaper in singapore as compared to Malaysia. I only listed 2 specific models which I have first hand experience. Body confirm cheaper than Singapore, with 3 years warranty from Canon also.

If you guys need contacts of the shops to call and address, can PM me.

Bro. you got PM

I came across some Chinese website that ship cameras at a cheap price are they reliable? eg a Canon EOS 7D going for S$1000/=.

Yes this shop is reliable and the only one I've heard that can be trusted in this district. I believe they moved location a couple of years ago but are still located in Tsim Sha Tsiu. All others along Nathan road and its side streets prey upon tourists and unsuspecting locals.

Anyone just came back from USA, Malaysia or Indonesia and bought some Canon stuffs? Want to know whether did you guys managed to get the stuffs with International warranty card. Hong Kong now all changed to Red colour local warranty card. :(
