cheaper means grey set?

hi, im keen on getting the BG-E4 grip for my 5D. checked the prices here and noted that CP was selling at $469 while OP at $340, that's more than $100 difference! can i assume that the cheaper price is a grey set with no local Canon warranty? is it safe to get grey sets? im ok with accessories but just wondering if something goes wrong, does the shop give its own warranty and will Canon do servicing if anything goes wrong (of course with charge i assume). thanks.

I think most likely OP is selling grey set for e grip. But I think grip doesnt have warrenty in e 1st place. Mayb u can try asking them whether they got include in shop warrenty.
 

Grey or not, not that important for accesories. There is no warranty be it local or grey accessories.
 

if like that getting the grip from OP definately more worth it liao? keke
 

hi guys, thanks for yr inputs. found out that the cheaper one fr OP is grey set. managed to get from AP at $390 with one-year warranty. very surprised how come diff shops quoted different prices, seems to apply to lenses as well.
 

Isn't it always thus... Different shops, different owners, different prices. If you want to get relatively cheaper stuff, try to build a relationship with a single shop, and then get discounts and freebies based on your long term dealing with them.
 

yup, now sticking to AP - friendly service/nice prices. actually got the quotes from the pricelist here which only quoted CP/OP prices, luckily checked with AP. my last foray into photography was during the 1990s so sort of lost touch, only recently jumped into the DSLR bandwagon.

he just said in an earlier post he got from AP with 1 year warranty...

but it doesn't matter.... accesories seldom break down anyway....

i didnt know accesories have " no warranty"
 

FYI, Canon does not warranty any accesories(With the Exception of flashes).

If the poster says AP's Accesories comes with 1 year warranty, most probably that its AP's own shop warranty or they are lying outright.

I have thought so too that accessories (battery grip) have no warranty...cos I bought my 30D grip from AP a year back... that is what AP guy told me and there is no warranty card within the box... But I got a 5D grip lately from HK and inside the package, I found a "International Warranty" card. somemore in Japanese... So :dunno:

Almost all Canon accessories have no warranty but that doesn't mean ALL.

Just for your information, the Power Booster PB-E2 has warranty. I have seen the warranty card before. The reason why some accessories have warranties is becuase the values are > certain amount, like > $400.

Most Canon accessories are less than $400, so that's why I said almost all accessories do not have any warranty.

That explains :thumbsup: .. a 5D battery grip is not cheap :sweat:
 

i was told that the grip comes with local Canon warranty, but there is NO card issued. if it does breakdown within a year, just go to CSC, show them the grip's serial number and receipt and they will service it for free. Canon has a database for all accessories sold in Singapore so if you bought it from overseas, the serial no. won't be in their database and they won't service it. some of you may say its not true and even i myself can't vouch for it unless i call CSC to verify. but what i do know is that CSC takes their customers seriously and if you bought their accessory from here and if it breaks down becos of product defect within a year, they will most likely repair it for free.

just to quote an incident, i bought my 5D Kit less than a month ago. when i discovered that part of the black paint on the hotshoe had peeled off (small area), i emailed Canon. its not a big issue since its just cosmetic but coming from a brand new camera i was just curious what their response will be. well, they apologised, gave me their CSC address/contact no. and ask me to bring my 5D there and they will REPLACE the hotshoe unit. and i was also assured that it wld take less than 30 minutes. i think that is very commendable becos if you're dealing with other companies they may say that you scratched it yrself or whatever they can wiggle out of. for my case it was clear cut, i didn't drop or bump it, i only had it for a day and don't even have an external flash to mount on the hotshoe to cause it to peel.

then you should have the price list updated
without the updates the price list would be outdated

so if you bring the item home and it does not work as it should, then how?
