was shooting just now and got this 'CHA' on my lcd and some pics show "no image" when I playback.

I immediately switch off and continue to shoot .. and 'CHA' appear again after some shoot.

So best to send down right?
Try the card with your D2X and see? Might be card issue... all else.. send the camera in for check up lor.

d2x ? since when ?
i know u gaffered until pple wont recognise is d2X :bsmilie:

I have same problem too. Intermittent, occasionally shows "CHA" on lcd and show "bo image" when try to preview some corrupted files.

IIRC problem start happening after sending my D70s in for servicing.

Send in again?

Try a different brand of CF card. I know of the similar symptoms with the Seagate CF Microdrives.

then sounds like your camera is giving the problems. Looks like NSC liao.

Hey guys, if I remember I read somewhere that Lexar cards have this WA technology (Write acceleration) that only works with some cameras that support this WA technology. If I remember correctly, D70s (not sure about D70, should be the same I guess?) does not support WA. Maybe it will be interesting to list your card type (i.e. brand, memory size, speed), pic settings (RAW, fine, etc) , type of error message, and other factors (usage and age of card), and see what are the potential variable/s that causes these problems. For all you know, maybe there is a 'lethal' combination of factors that caused the "CHA" and permanent damage to the CF reading mechanism in the camera? Like using a really fast card on a older camera.....

Just my guess... , still a newbie.

You are spot on. For my case I've gone to convergent to change my CF card a number of times, after 4 tries, I've totally given and brought it back to NSC, end up I had to pay $196 to replace the CF module.
Same thing happened to me as well, it all happened after I send in my Camera for a servicing, there after the CHA keeps appearing intermitternly. Don't bother to try any other errors, send it in for them to take a look.
Just a tip, it won't be cheap if your warranty have expired.

so after changing your CF module does the CHA error message still occur?

been using lexar 02 * 1GB 80x WA for the past 1yrs plus leh, no such problem so far

was at loyang temple doing some shooting when CHA appear. once I saw that on my LCD, my shutter couldnt fire and I quickly switch off and on it .. continue to shoot and then it occurs another few times before I called it a day (using only 1 card)

Went home and save the pics to my com. And notice there are 3folders instead of the usual one.
Continue to shoot my room with both cards and nothing happens so far .. called NSC and they ask me bring my cam and card down.

I've used 1GB and 2GB Lexars before I switched over to Extreme IIIs, sorry to say I didn't experience what you did.

Perhaps you should follow NSC's direction to bring down and check it out.

I always thought that camera bodies are similar to a computer's motherboard, and the CF cards are like the RAMS or pentium chip. Say, the D2H works fine with Extreme III cards (you need the speed for that fps thing). Imagine in a few years time, an even faster card (supreme IV?) appears. You use this new card on your D2H (or say D70s or older models), is there any chance that the older circuitry, or rather, the device that reads the CF card, can handle the new card? I think it will be wise not to push to the limits of a new CF card on older cameras. Again, newbie's thoughts.

In the end, it is still the end users who may or may not experience problems; and it will be good for all parties if these problems can be properly catalogued. Just my thoughts...

Thanks for the tip. I had the same exact problem. But only with a particular Lexar 80x 1 gb card. If there are sufficient people having this problem, do you think they can waive that repair costs?
