Cant make up my mind on the lenses bundle i wish to get.

my JRT is fast very fast.... i am getting a DSLR cos of her.... any lenses to recommend for catching up with her moves?

To be honest it might be better if you go w/ a Canon or Nikon for fast moving subject like a JRT. Pentax cameras are good, excellent actually. But they are a bit slow in AF especially AF tracking (which might be very useful for fast moving small subjects like your JRT). You can get a Canon 7D w/ a fast 70-200mm USM lens to capture some very nice action photos of your JRT .

My dog is also very active but you can train your dog to sit still! It can be done. Then any camera/lens combo can work.

always training her haha...will stick to Pentax

Even she's very active, there are always moments they'd stand/sit still. Just try to capture those moments. When you are out in the field, can also capture some nice action shots if you 'train' yourself well ;)

But for capturing running dogs, Canon/Nikon systems really haver their strength there.

Oops!
I forsee you ranting here abt 'shxt' Pentax AF and how you will be dumping all your stuff in Bns in a months time. :D

Jokes aside, I'd suggest you temper your expectations on what AF can do for you.
Also, probably need to be innovative and stubborn enough on attempts of getting shots of your dog.
(Eg. Use flash when necessary, MF is necessary, wait for dog to move less, and so on)

I just see too many 'I need a fast AF camera/lens to take photos of my child' type queries that end up with wrong expectations.

Stick to it (try try try) and think logically for your shots no matter which camera/brand you will end up with.
my few cents :)

i understand.... no worries on the AF thingy... getting Pentax is due to its entry level WR specs.

That's why I suggest him to use C/N instead, so if he can't capture photos of his running dog, he can only blame himself instead of the camera ;)

Want super fast AF? Go with a C/N/S. Want to take good photos? Any camera can lah.

maybe if you know where she will run to then do a pre focus at the spot..once she in the focus zone..just do a continuous burst..not all will be keeper tho but you will still get some..

at least this is how i do it when i was shooting at the scape park previously

Feng Wei, maybe a little tangential topic but is the K-30 really that slow compared to C/N/S? I would have thought that with the improved AF, it would at least be not too far off from them. Even more so for the K-5IIs given what we have been seeing in reviews... I'm asking because i have never compared how my Pentax DSLRs do against the Cs, Ns & Ss...

Yeah yeah... please share share.. what things i need to check when i go to shop... Anyone has bad experience about Orient.. Do they sell hoods n filters. What kind would be good, please advise with price please.

Orient Photo at SLS is one of the best places to get your stuffs. The people there are friendly too. Call them 63391035.

I use Kendo Pro-Digital 1 filters or even B+W is good but ex. DA18-135 comes with hood, why you need another hood??

Cos dal 18-55mm doesn't come with 1 . Ha

Didn't know 18-135 comes with hood. Pardon me do I need a filter if I have a hood? What filters are there uv n normal filters? Which is advisable. K52s is out of my budget. Sad

I personally don't use UV filters. In part because I personally think it's debateable whether a UV filter adds positive protection to the lens - there are cases where the UV filter broke and scratched the front element. Also, I've never bumped my lens against anything or dropped it, and really don't see how it happens unless you really don't take the proper precautions.

The other part (of course) has to do with the fact that I almost always use other filters when shooting, at least for landscapes. I used to have a 77mm filter on my Sigma 10-20mm. Then I realized that it was acting as a secondary lens cap, which was silly. So I stopped.

If you get the Wr lenses then you will of course need to get filter, because without it..i think it would not be WR fully right?

I like the K30 camera, it's probably the most reponsive camera Pentax ever made so far (feels more responsive even than K5/K5IIs), its AF especially AF tracking speed is still way behind the best cameras from C/N/S camp. K5II can focuse under very low light down to -3EV, but it doesn't mean it focuses any faster than a K30.

Comparing w the fastest AF cameras from CNS, Pentax still got a long way to catch up, both in cameras and lenses.

For the options the TS mentioned, I'd get a 18-135mm, simply to avoid the need to swop lenses. I'm not sure if the TS is interested in the WR aspect, because the 18-55mm he mentions does not have WR.

I feel that the TS won't just be taking pics of his JRT, but also other things as well, and having a single lens would be more practical and convenient.

This is what I've tried myself (my own cameras) or what I've tried from friend's cameras and also peeping at wedding shots from 'pros' that I try to obtain from friends.
In the end, my conclusion is that its a mixed bag.
Some Canikons are faster in AF (eg. D90; D7k; 7D; D700)
But they can be faster but so-so in accuracy (eg.D90 )
Some can be more expensive (7D)
Others can be more expensive but only as good AF and sometimes it can be poorer (5D; 5DII)
Many times, they are different lineage and/or priced, so all my comparisons are never truly fair.
Almost always they win some K5 win some (eg. dynamic range; WS; SR; features; buttons; interface; etc)

I've ever shot a friend's wedding.
I got all the photos from everyone including the bridal shop 'pro'. (Friends- D7K; A700; 'pro' - D700; D90)
I'm not BS-ing you when I tell you that the K5 had the best o/p.
At the end, my conclusion was that the photographer mattered more than the camera as all of the cameras were good enough for the day.

Don't believe, you can always arrange with me in advance to bring some of the shots on my tablet during the outings. ;)
