Hi this is what i mean, this happens when shooting towards a bright light source. Is this normal?

I just got my 400D last month and a 50mm 1.4 a few days back from Joe, The Oracle. Great lens! I love it! and 400D is simple and easy to use for a beginner like me. I still got a lot to learn.

That kind of flare cannot avoid i believe. but i think there is some kind of filter to enhance that effect.

Nice computer rig man.. haha..

Yes, there isn't much that you can do with these 'flares'. The ones here are called starbursts (I think) and it happens when small lights are captured (ie street lights, torchlight from afar etc)

with that said. that pic is so camerashake blurrrrr. its me i just have a habit of making sure the all pics from the camera are free from cam shake blurr

Sorry for the shakiness of the pic...still a newb:sweat:

i believe this shot will be sharp at the below settings you can try though.
iso 800 1/64 f1.4

This camera was a gift from my dad for my birthday. It was a brillant DSLR to start for a newbie and everything is under your control at your fingertips. I like the picture style which enables me to change from vivid Landsape style to crips, and clear Stantard style.

Light weght body with plastic feel ans the grip is ralatively small especially for guys like me.
Just arm a general walkaround lens with F2.8 and everything can be snap into CF cards.

A good and lightweight camera;p

wonderful camera to start with

after using it for bout 5 months, got really sick and tired of the strap, painful and uncomfortable. got an obtech instead, though i like the digital eos wordings.

got mine back in sept 2006 . . . still lovin' it! :D . . . great dslr for starters . . . perhaps my next upgrade would be 40D's successor - probably in a year's time? . . . but i'd still keep my 400D as a backup/2nd body :)

Dad got this for my Bday about 7 weeks ago, and it is my first DSLR. It's been pretty good to me and vice versa haha. The AI Servo focus mode doesn't like me though, half the shots I snapped while bursting were OOF.

Complimented it with a 50mm f/1.8 II, 17-40mm f/4L, and will be adding on a 70-200mm f/2.8 and BG-E3 grip soon

If only it had 1/3 ISO increments >.>

My own experience using AI Servo focus: you must use selective focus point, ideally the center focus point only. Before half press the shutter, make sure u focus well on the moving object (that's why using AI servo right? :). After half-pressed the shutter, try to keep the focus point follow the object and u will got the object focused no matter the object moves farther away or nearer to you. Burst mode won't be a problem if done properly.

And if using default focus point selection, AI servo just won't work.

Correct me if I am wrong. :)

Hey, I've got a 400D too and I realized that my focus is always off. Like, I want to focus on the face (i use single point focus - the middle one) and then I'll shift my camera to make my composition, somehow, the crotch will be focused instead of the face. Or if I'm taking close up, the neck is focused instead of the face... am I advised to use multiple focus function or wad?

thanks, ppl!
