but this isnt with digic III. i think the real test would be to see how Ixus 900TI performs with ISo3200 and DIGIC III. wondering if it can finally compare to F30

It's been slammed quite a bit at DPReview. Another common complaint is that the corners are soft at 28mm (esp when compared to the panasonic cams).
Oh and the SD800 IS IS (hurhur) using Digic III. The 900TI has a bigger sensor so the noise performance should be better.
I'm still probably going to get one soon. I think the ISO400 is still usable, which for a P&S is ok for me especially since I'll only use it for casual shots. Seems to be real hot though. Alan Photo at Funan has already sold out their stock. =^/

I am considering this cam mainly for the 28mm, the DIGIC III and the 200K LCD.
Appreciate any new owner's feedback on the cam... esp on the soft corners at 28mm.

u probably won't get much feedback as it's newly launched.. do a search for sample pics at dpreview forum.. there're samples there with rants.
did some shadow noise tests at various ISO settings with the Ixus 850 IS at a shop. seems quite usable up to ISO400.....All pics are 100% crop (600x400) from the original pics. No processing done. Camera was set to use default settings with ISO changed.

Just got mine a few hours ago. S$680 at CP, Marina. Includes the Canon freebies (512mb SD and their "kit bag" thingy).
First impressions? The camera is really small. So much so that it actually fits in my handphone pouch. =^/ The LCD screen is pretty good. Bright and sharp. However, the viewing angle isn't that great as the colour shifts quite easily. Operation is pretty fast. Not much lag or anything. Loads of "gadget" features like you can change all sorts of things like the startup picture, record your own shutter/self-timer/startup/etc sounds, etc, etc. One very cool feature that they should bring to their EOS cameras is the LCD auto-rotation. If you rotate the camera, the display on the LCD will actually automatically rotate to the correct orientation. This is great for portrait shots where viewing them with the camera tilted uses the whole screen instead of having to shrink the photo to fit the aspect ratio.
Can't really say much about the picture quality as I haven't had the chance to really test it out yet. However, yes, noise is pretty bad from iso400 onwards altho i think iso400 is still usable (the cut off). It looks like the iso1600 on my 20d. The IS seems to work although the effect isn't as strong as lets say on the 70-200 F2.8L IS. It's sorta like what you get on the 17-55 F2.8 IS. You don't really see the effect in the lcd/viewfinder but you do get it in the output. I'd say though that it's good for only 2-3 stops depending on how stable your shooting position is.
The face recognition AF thing is pretty cool too. You can actually see white brackets around the faces of people in your LCD as you're composing the shot. It seems to help the exposure too. My dad took a shot of my brother and I in a restaurant with a bright signboard display in the background but the camera correctly exposed for our faces rather than the overall scene or the bright background.
I'll try to post more thoughts tomorrow but so far, strictly as a go-everywhere-PnS camera, i think it basically does the job. At least for me.

At ISO800, IXUS 850 really no way match to F30...
I guess, it is either u take IXUS 850 for its 28mm or F30 for its high ISO performance.
Dunno how Ricoh R5 compares.... supposed to improve on noise handling. The 850's ISO400 seems better than Ricoh R4.
must say handling feels goodfocussing and operations are pretty fast too. have too many digicompacts though, else might have gotten it ;p
ISO 800 probably is ok if printed. Let me run some noise processing later and see if the results are good.

ISO800 after NN (auto profile, lum strength: 11, lum smoothness: 8, rest default):
100% crop:
IMO not too bad. After NN the iso800 is now usable although there is a fair amount of fine detail lost through the camera itself as well as the NN. But this shouldn't be a problem for 4R prints or web-sizes i believe.
