Hi guys,
Have read on many pages that the Canon Powershot S series can't be turned off once in casing. That's what I thought too, until my friend John [deleted by moderator; implicit advertising] showed me how.
Thought I would share this with you all.
Press and hold the FUNC key on the left, until - you guess it - the camera turns off. The lens would retract. To turn the camera back on, press lightly on the shutter release!
This neat little trick I could not find in either my S60 or S70 manual. And it help me survived 7 am through 5 pm, dive-sleep-rock around the clock-dive-... trip last November. My battery lasted but not the 512 Mb CF card - I had to delete some photos while top side.
Don't know if this works with earlier S series camera, my guess is that there is no harm in trying.
Do report back.
