hey boogle, i'm also consider the 3 models ur once agonized about.. How did you conclude to s3? heh~ maybe you can help me lighten my agnoy.
My reasons why I prefer the S3 over H2/H5 are:
1. Tiltable LCD screen
2. Proprietary MS format

Some of my reasons for S3 over H2/H5:
- Tiltable LCD as most have pointed out. My first digicam was S40, next was G5. The Tiltable LCD is probably something that is difficult to give up once you've become used to it. I take photos of my kids, plants, insects and animals mostly and it helps with the wierd positions I need to place the cam in to get the angles I want.
- H2/5 flash memory is more expensive than SD
- H5 resolution is high but I keep hearing folks say with small CCD, the additional pixels don't buy you much. I also have a problem storing the huge number of photos I take esp if the file size is big and 5-6MP is good enough for me. I am the trigger happy sort that loves to use the high speed burst mode and just press and hope to catch a couple of good shots when my kids are running around.
- H5 cam itself is more expensive, even though H2 is not far in pricing from S3
- Having owned 2 Canon digicams, I can pick up the functions on S3 a lot faster and more intuitively
- When I tried the H2/H5 in the stores, my impression was that the autofocus seemed slower than S3. But this is just based on gut feel.
- I was hoping that the sony picture quality at high ISOs would be significantly better than canon but from what I could see in the reviews, they did not seem that different to me. Again, this is just my gut feel.
- USM lens on Canon is silent and very fast to zoom. I like that. Esp for the video modes.
- I have other devices that use SD too and my NB has a built in SD slot. So there is some leverage on the flash memory I buy
- I tried the peak focus thingy on manual zoom for Sony hoping it would really help a lot on manual zoom mode... but after trying, it did not seem that helpful to me.
Most of these are probably already mentioned somewhere in other forums or threads. Hope it helps though.
