Canon Powershot S95

Can I safely say all of you who shoot in RAW for the S95 use Canon's Digital Photo Professional?

I wish RAW files aren't as complicated as they are. Every time a manufacturer release a new cam, the RAW files are unreadable in Photoshop. And any update may not even be applicable to the older Photoshop version you are using.

That you should complain to Adobe :bsmilie:

I just got the S95 today. I observed that when pointed to lightbulbs, vertical banding (blue/purple/pink colours) appears on the screen. The bands do not appear on the final photo though.

Is this normal?

Typical for CCD sensors. If you record video, it may also be in the final output.

Or rather, complain to Canon. Cos they release new cams too soon!

There are people who brought this up to Adobe. Nothing much they can do but wait.

On a technical note, I'm just wondering what is it about RAW files, which if there is a new camera model released, Photoshop can no longer read? It's still CR2 right? Still from Canon and the same S series compact cam. Some codes inside have changed?

Just bought 2 spare battery from slr.
Price increased!
$7 now.

F1 Friday night.

Is the slanting buildings at the right due to wide lens?

yes, keystone effect iirc

I think the keystone effect term is used in relation to projection of images onto screens. The more commonly used term in photography is perspective distortion. You can actually correct it in photoshop. Just google for perspective correction and you will find many suggestions on how you can do this. Alternatively, you can also search perspective correction in youtube and you will find many tutorials using different methods.

Hi S95 owners,

have some questions to ask. I went to the Vivo showroom to play around with it cos thinking of getting one for my in-laws. Found some limitations that i would like to confirm if it is what you are experiencing or just that i did not look into the menu settings enough.

  1. when in video mode, the focal length is fixed. even when you do digital zoom, it does not autofocus. is this correct?
  2. the different aspect rations (16:9, 4:3, 3:2, 1:1) are not available in AV, TV and M mode (only available in P mode and Custom mode)
  3. tilt-shift and minature effects are only available in video mode.
Thanks for your help!

    Correct

Wrong. You can set it in those modes via menu
  3. tilt-shift and minature effects are only available in video mode.
Wrong, it's available for still shots as well. It's in the "SCENE" mode
Thanks for your help!

Thanks Rinaldo! very helpful clarification:thumbsup:

Tried taking some videos using my S95 last weekend and I have to say I am very impressed. The 720P videos look very sharp and smooth, even better than the 720P recording on my previous DSLR.
