Canon Powershot S95

Gosh, if its inclusive of GST, thats a pretty good pricing! :thumbsup:And it arrived in shops so fast! Way faster than the LX5 which was announced before it, and still yet to appear on local shops.

Pretty tempting now!
psst..... limited stocks available too.....

I just went to SLR Revolution. The S95 arrived today and was already selling like hot cakes. $589 (cash price, GST incl.), comes w/8GB and case.

GOSH...that's superb. Now I'm beginning to wonder why the S90 cost 600+....

$599 at Parisilk Holland Village.
Comes with 16gb Card and Casing.

was just looking at canon website:
s95 - $669...
s90 - $699...

if we see e promotion time to time... i think in it show price will be: $669, with 2x8gb memory card, memory reader, cheapo case + mini speaker (*not a good deal)

if parisilik selling it with 16gb card for $599 then it's really a good deal...

struggeling now whether to sell my s90 or not... wonder how much i can fetch for my s90 :(
if I can sell for $500 then $100 investment for HD video :p

argh...

i'm in the same dilemma on whether i should sell my S90 and buy S95. but my concern is the rear wheel dial which causes settings to be changed easily just by touching it.

You are a little late now. With the unexpected nice low price of the new S95 at $589, used S90 will not fetch $500 now.

I sold my S90 on Tuesday at $500. But thats 1 day before the S95 came to Singapore.

If you can sell at $500, there is really nothing to hold you back...before the S90 value drop like mad.

In few months time, the S95 will sell lesser for about $550. Used S95 will then fetch about $420 for used units. By then, Used S90 can only command $300 or lesser.

Why is it new & better S95 selling cheaper than old S90 ??? Is the new S95 make in China or other SE asia country now instead of Japan? I thought of buying one since it is selling at below $600. And if I can pay by credit card installment plan of 24-36mths will be even better!!! So, where should I buy from? So far SLR Revolution selling at $589, Parisilik at $599 and MS color $620...

why take an installment of 24-36 mths for a small item like this? most places are 12mths with about 2-3% extra.

LX3 captured a major P&S prosumer market (usu guys who have used DSLR but want a small, light camera - with manual controls). S90 came late and with a high price. It could not really compete with the LX3.

Now, LX5 just got announced. If you are Canon would you want to capture more market before the LX5 arrives? Hence, lower price and more features than S90 - but not a lot. Good for folks getting a new P&S and want a Canon. :) That's my take.

Although I am quite attracted to the LX5 - flash mount! I will probably get the S95. Its cheaper and smaller.

The week 1's lucky draw for LX5 SG microsite is a free FL360 flash unit for users who want an external flash;)

Well, actually the timing for both camera launches are very close, with Canon rushing in to launch the S95 with the sole target of just trying to grab a week or two of share, doesn't it look bad on their end?

Canon! What is your marketing team thinking! Don't cheapen the brand leh! Especially coming in to leh long your camera just before Comex!

No choice I guess, LX3 was a sleeper hit and without much advertising. It managed to retain its price for so long, outcompeting most other P&S. Who knows what the LX5 will do.

Anyway, the latest range of DSLR does not seem very innovative when compared to what Sony just released - translucent mirrors with constant focus - and 10fps!

And with everyone coming out with a mirrorless 4/3 or equivalent, it seems like Canon has been depending too much on its reputation to sell its stuff for a little too long.:)

does s95 have super marco function?

reason for Canon launching the S95 at a lower price (compared to S90) is probably the increased competition... i think they don't have much choice. market is very competitive now!

It only smacks of poor planning though, when the S90 is priced HIGHER than the S95 right now. Sigh. I went to a dealer to checkout the product, and the salesgirl was pretty confused over the difference.

Can I safely say that the biggest diff between the S90 and S95 is the video mode?

Nothing is mentioned about how more effect the Hybrid IS is on a compact cam, compared to the S90.

Initially I thought the S95 had better dynamic range but later realized it's not so.

I'd like to see how the noise is on the S95. Anyone with comparisons? Thanks.

The HS system with BSI CMOS system supposedly. I'm also looking forward to the comparisons between the BSI CMOS and the high sensitivity CCD.

Canon showroom at Vivo has the s95 on display for people who want to try it out.
