Acording to review DCResourcew.com, with 2300mha batteries, it will take 550 shots. But you got to try out and see if it is true as for me my batteries last me 2.5 weeks = 500 shots

Boy you r early!

Glad u like it!

I have the Canon Adapter, costs around $50-$60 if i remember correctly.
I have the hoya HMC multicoated filter, think its was $27.
U can find a cheaper version which is not multicoated in a
purple coloured packaging.

It is supposed to reduce the purplish tinge of UV haze @ high altitudes or when shooting across large stretches of water (when I was shooting across a large lake, this does work by personal experience). But I guess for most of us, the primary purpose is to protect the camera lens!

but with the lens filter the hood wont be able to fit in rite? am I correct for this?

btw, I loves to shoot buildings @ night, what kind of filter would I need? coz I found if I open my shutter too long, the building lights will affect the picture...

thx ^ ^

The hood for the canon S2 will still fit, just that there wil be slight vigenetting @ the wide end, just zoom in a couple of mm.

@ nite? I dun think you need filters of any kind (barring those cheesy star filters)
what do u mean by "will affect the picture" ?

If I'm not wrong, slmka is referring to that disgusting phenomenon where light sources, such as street lamps, have a six-directional "starburst". It's not so bad for lower exposures, the six rays are thin and you can almost pretend you used a starburst filter ;) . But when you expose longer, or use higher ISO, or have a bigger light source, the six rays become fat and ugly. This is what I hate most about this camera, man. My brother's Konica-Minolta Dimage Z1 didn't give me this problem. Slmka, this is what you mean?

I don't yet know how to overcome this problem. It'll be a nightmare to PS away, too, I think.

OK, this thread has become a multipurpose Canon PowerShot S2 IS thread about accessories, photography advice, purchasing advice, outing discussion and camera problems. Not that I mind... :)

Too shy to start new threads izzit? Intimidated by the Canon DSLR heavyweights? Me too! :bsmilie:

Anyway, just want to check who's up for a trip to the Mandai Zoo on, say Saturday 22nd October or Sunday 23rd. We can meet at 9:30 a.m. or something. If nobody's keen, I'm probably going anyway, and we can discuss other outing venues.

So interested, post your preferred date, I'm quite flexible.

It depends on how close you are. If you use full zoom, you have to be about 1m away, any closer and you will have problem focusing. However, you can use a closeup filter/lens to get to 5 to 50cm from the subject, depending on the filter you use.

If you use Supermarco feature, you can be at 0cm to 10cm away from the subject.

Hope it helps.

cheers

Did you press the macro button for macro/supermacro first?

Press macro button once= normal macro (Flower Icon). Press and hold macro button and the macro = supoer macro. Icon has an "S" on the flower.

Haahaa... :sweatsm:

Rule no. 1.
Always read the manual whenever you are not sure.

Well, the manual is WRONG in this case,
it doesn't tell u to hold down but to
"REPEATEDLY PRESS THE [FLOWER] BUTTON..."
Look @ pg 58

sooo...
i guess its a helpful remark. ;)

Macro is 10 - 50 cm, supermacro is 0 - 10 cm. You can't use zoom in these cases, and that's why the specs say "(W only)", meaning maximum wide angle only.

MF
Macro/supermacro/others only determines the range in which the camera is capable of being in focus. AF and MF are the tools that get your subject in the desired focus.

Use MF 1) when AF doesn't get it right, or 2) when you want an effect that the camera is not expecting. You can use MF in conjunction with macro/supermacro, or outside that range. 1) Your object is x cm/m away, but the AF has trouble figuring it out, then use MF. One example of 2): You are shooting into a mirror and want to focus on the reflection, not on the mirror, then MF can be used to make the mirror image, not the mirror, sharp.

There's always something new at the zoo, and on 23rd October 2005, it'll be at least one ape with a Canon PowerShot S2 IS. I honestly don't care what camera you have, as long as you don't make tsk tsk sounds ;) , but some people were asking for an S2 outing, and since I'm going, well, join in if you're keen :) .

A wide variety of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles are available for photographic capture (OK, I'm sure you didn't need me to tell you that ;p ). Those interested, send me a PM with your mobile phone number and your real name, if you have one, hee.

Venue : Mandai Zoo entrance
Date : 23rd October 2005, Sunday
Time : 9:30 a.m.
Duration : Free and easy, depends on ambient temperature and weather, but factor in at least 3 hours?
What to bring : Money for admission, camera, commonsense survival items.

1) kaywalk
2) granni

Any recommendation of accessories to add on to e S2?
