Canon Powershot G7X

One of the thing I noticed these days is that most of reviewers tend to look at every single camera as a professional tool and tend to overlook the original user group that they might be designed for. There are still so many people want to have a good camera that they can rely on in full Auto Mode without the need to understand what is aperture/iso/shutter speed and the full long list of menu customization. Tested both the RX100mkIII and G7X to buy one for my family and decided to get the G7X. To me the touch screen which allow amateur to select focus point in full Auto Mode is the best feature of this camera over the RX100mkIII. The more flexible zoom range is also another well regarded feature for amateur. For this user group, who care about RAW performance, frame rate, etc. I can pass the G7X to anyone and just need to tell them select the subject they want to shoot by touch the screen in Auto mode and the results are mostly fine. From my point of view, G7X is the most suitable camera for amatuer family at this moment!

Regarding to RAW and JPEG Sharpness and contrast, by default, G7X apply less sharpness/contrast in JPEG comparing to RX100III. Curiously, I've also compared RAW files (using RAW Therapee) Vs Jpeg file of G7X found out that if you apply a bit sharpness/contrast before convert to JPEG, you can easily have a more contrast and sharpness result than the camera JPEG. My family members are happily using the camera in Auto Mode with JPEG only now.

I'll share some photos from this G7X during the testing time before pass it to the family. All shot in JPEG without retouch except there might be a few photo need a bit brightness/contrast adjustment using PhotoScape.

Anyone found a source for OEM spare batteries for this camera?
Can't seem to find any for this NB-13L model.
So far shooting my new cam in eco mode the battery life seems passable. But on a holiday it won't be enough for sure if I use this as a primary camera.

any suggestions for accessories - thumb grips, camera case etc?

I can't find OEM battery too!

Owners of G7x, i read that in many reviews, the major complaint is that the AF is very slow... do you guys really find that the AF speed is a real issue? Or just something that the reviews are biased against?

Pretty alright for me and infact it was quite fast for a compact camera, of course it was slightly slower than my OMD EM5, but that was expectable. Although recently, as Andreq had pointed out, the RAW file seemed less sharp (and I can confirm that) but since it is RAW file, it is supposed to be unedited and so pretty alright for me. The major complain I have was that the RAW file was not supported by my old LR4.

Anybody gotten the casing for the camera?

I saw the original Canon G7X casing at Courts Superstore Tampines yesterday. It was selling for $36 thereabout. There were at least 2 pieces available.

AF is pretty fast on this cam! IQ is pretty impressive! can almost replace my 500D.

I gotten a cover from ebay for less than 20 bucks. eone8, may I know where you got the underwater casing and how much does it cost?

I am also looking for a spare battery. Don't see any OEMs for sale, will probably give Alan Photo, MS Color or Parisilk a call later to check for availability.

Worth getting? I remember lazada having sale/promo codes right now.
With code, should be able to get it at $30++ and still have shopback rebates.
