Canon Powershot G7X

Keen to know too. As most of the freebies does not includes a camera case for the g7x.
Am getting my g7x tomorrow at Sitex.

Not sure about the price you will get when you buy at Sitex vs the 'recommended' shops at Funan.. Traditionally, Sitex (or those PC shows) will be selling at RRP rather than street price. I've not done any research on the cost, so can't comment much about the difference in savings (if any)

Something you may want to consider giving a read: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1047612

Can I check what sort of casing you all use for your G7X? Thanks.

Wish Canon Singapore will sell one that fits the G7X nicely.

Frankly... I didn't use any case. I just pop my G7X into my cargo pants and carried it around. So far so good... actually... I didn't even have a protective sheet over the LCD too.

Sitex is $799 with 32gb sd card, strap, A jay headphone and cleaning kit with screen protector. Alan photo is $703 with 8gb sd card.

If the freebies is well worth the amount, go ahead :)

But still, I dislike crowded places :p

Question should be whether you want those additional items enough to pay the $90+ difference and go all the way to expo to get it, assuming you dont stay nearby.

Hmm not quite attracted to the freebies because personally I have a few headphones so going to Alan photo later! Thanks for the thread you posted earlier, have read it:)

Yeah, that's the way it should be!

The cover adds more bulk and just that few seconds of taking the cam out and putting it back into the cover can be a hassle and make one lose a shot.

And I read the LCD screen of most cameras these days is actually quite strong and scratch resistant.

But the kiasu person in me still want to protect the camera. Hai....

For those who have NOT gotten the G7X (or even if you have bought it), will you wait for the LX100 instead?

Been hearing lots of good reviews about it. Seems like it will even trash the Sony RX100III to some extent.

But I guess as with all purchases, there are cons to consider. For me they are:

1. Price, price, price! No matter how good it is, it is still estimated about $400 more expensive than the G7X. Maybe worth it for those who don't own any other cameras and want to use this primarily as the main cam. For more than $1k as a compact cam, kinda expensive to me.

2. It's bulkier than G7X. Every few mm in thickness makes all the diff whether you can stuff the cam easily into the pocket or not.

3. No built-in flash. This may seem like no problem. But when you really need to use it, you're stranded without one. Carrying a separate flash and fitting it onto the LX100 is still a hassle and not as compact as it should be.

4. Less zoom range. Not very major but still enough difference if you need that extra reach.

What are your thoughts? Please share.

Yes. Price is definitely one of the criteria that will stop me from getting the LX100... but that is not the main criteria... for me, the size of the LX100 is putting me off. It is too big... I cannot squeeze that into my cargo pants. I like the hotshoe though... much more flexible in my opinion.

Coming back to the size issue of the LX100... it is at that size that I find viewfinder kind of feasible. I think the RX100III is excellent in term of size and IQ... however the viewfinder is kind of a joke to me, I have used it before... the viewfinder on such a small body and so closely smashed to my face is very, very comical at the least. The LX100 though, with a bigger size, I think the viewfinder will be excellently placed.

So... all in all... even if the LX100 is out tomorrow, I will still not part with my G7X and get it, even if the IQ is wayyyy better (which I really doubt) than the G7X.

I initially wanted the LX100 more than the G7x but needed a compact before my trip. So I chose the latter.
I like the touch screen feauture for the G7x very much, which is missing for LX100. Currently don't have needs for the feautures for LX100.
I will wait for the successor of LX7 or when price of LX100 is much lower.

hi, where you get the mini-tripod? tks
Anybody felt that the lack of grip is getting on your nerve? After sometime in Little India on Sunday, I find myself wishing for a grip for the small G7X. So I went online to search for one. There is none available. No choice, I have to go to Daiso, get myself some woods and fabricate a grip for myself.

My workmanship sucks big time, but the grip worked pretty well. Now it was very comfortable to hold.

Went to Alan photo today and purchase my g7x, they quoted me $35 for a leather case for the g7x.

Did you get the case? If you did, could you please post a picture here?

Thank you!

Unfortunately still can't get batteries yet. All said no stocks.

I don't think u should buy at RRP from SITEX unless u desperately need all those freebies.

I got mine from Ratuken.sg from reading about it from the discussion on GX7 @Hardwarezone.

There are 2 shops selling there: Parisilk and Lucky Store. Both offered self collection or free delivery.

Best of all, with the Black Friday discounts via coupons, my price was around $650.

If you bother to buy thru Shopback and pay thru Frank Card from OCBC, you'll get another 5% cash back n 6% respectively.

My eventual price hopefully will be around $580.

Save the $200 to buy additional battery n charger since this model's battery is known to be sucky.

Go n have a read of what the folks are doing and buying @Hardwarezone.

Currently there is a code after 5% shopback and 6% frank you will end up paying only $508 for it.

For a relatively new camera, I am surprised that they are offering such huge discount off the RPP. Those who got it at the low prices are really lucky.

Anyway, for the camera case, I use the case meant for Creative electronic dictionary. It is a very good fit. It looks like a typical camera case if you ignore the product name printed on it. I got it at around $5 from Popular bookstore.
