Canon Powershot G7X

Hi,

Can check if you can put Manual mode, set yr own desired ss and aperture, put on auto iso and use exposure compensation dial to adjust the iso?

@Learnphotography: Yes, based on your steps, the ISO changes as you change the exposure compensation via the dedicated dial.

Spot the X100 ....both at ISO 3200 F2.8...no resize no recrop just screen capture from center of frame

Woohoo... almost bought this camera today... well... save my money...

I was feeling abit top of the world today, receive a lump sum of money from my company just a few days ago and wanted to spend the money on a compact camera. So I walked into the Courts in Jem. Then walked to the camera section... (I know... it is 799... but I am not thinking straight). Went there and stand at the camera section, looking around for the salesperson. No one approach me. So I take my own initiative and approached one of them. That fella told me that he is not incharge of the camera section and pointed to one guy who is talking to another customer.

I waited... and waited... that customer actually bought something and that salesperson brought him to the cashier that is quite a distance away, so I waited for him in the camera section. Yep... finally saw the customer paid and left... but my sales rep didn't come back. And I approach another fella to ask for assistance, he told me to wait for the camera section in-charge... all the while, none of the sales person I approached bother to go and look for another sales rep or to dig that rep out from his hiding place.

So the wait continued for another ten minutes. Yep... my lunch time is up. So I left... without the camera but with $799 in the bank.

Left is X100 and right is G7X, I think. X100 is an APS-C sensor and I would think it should be able to capture slightly more detail.

As the previous post left is G7X and right is X100. Slight difference between the 2 cameras at F2.8 given one is a prime lens. Good thing you didnt get it there and there. You should go to Funan where its around $695-720

I just went to MS color this afternoon . Thinking I can buy the G7x with Sony Rx100 filter thread. But the G7x is slightly bigger so the thread cannot fit ..

So left the place empty handed.

Finally got the G7X from Courts near my work area... and at a price matching what I can get in Funan. They mentioned before that if I can find a price lower than theirs they can match it. So I got a written quotation from one of the shops in Funan and gave it to Courts, who matched it... Anyway, I still prefer to shop in Funan, especially from all my favourite shops. But I am kinda busy these few weeks and couldn't get to Funan... so I settle with the Courts near my work area.

Anyway, first impression like what others had mentioned before, was that the G7X's built is solid, no squeakiness and loose buttons. It was one of the smallest camera I have used that had so much buttons and control. The tension in the control ring is a bit tight though and when I try to twist that ring, my right hand accidentally hit the buttons at the rear of the camera quite a number of time, and it is kind of frustrating. But I think in time I will get use to it, so no biggie there.

I realise to my dismay that the NFC, although worked perfectly, cannot link the camera to my phone because I needed to download an app to my phone, yet that app is not available for me... obviously it is only available to android and ios... and I am using windows phone. So if that is a function that you need for window phone user, don't get the G7X. anyway, I have written to canon singapore and is waiting to see what they say and if they actually plan to release that app in windows store.

The camera is not thin by any means, I try popping it in my pocket, for my jeans it is out of the question, but for other pants, this camera fit tightly though. Pretty okay... but not really pocketable.

I haven't have the time to try shooting with it... but play abit with the control, I am familiar with it because I used Canon DSLR quite extensively so the control is nothing special in my opinion, and it fit right at home for me.

The only issue I have now is that I cannot find a freaking extra battery for it... and there is no filter adapters available (hoping that there will be in future). Plus there is no hotshoe for it so no external speedlite or viewfinder... but I read that you can use the HF-DC1 (flash). But it will looked funny in my opinion.

Hello to all new owner, may I ask a question about the wifi capability. Can we transfer photo to computer through wifi automatically when both are connected to the same network? Meaning, photos are transfer to PC automatically when a snap took place like the eye-fi SD card's feature. Thank you.

Just checking, anyone has backfocus when in macro or shooting at close distance . Mine has to pull the camera slightly back to get the area I want to be sharp

Was reading through the manual briefly. I think you can only do transfer manually.

Don't have this problem unless I get beyond its MFD. Also when getting really close, I would use manual focus.

By the way, I just ordered a Godox CF-18 flash. Hope that it will work for the G7X. Will keep you guys updated when my flash came in. But knowing ebay, it will take close to a month.

For those who have bought the camera, able to share some pics taken by the cam?

Thanks in advance!

Too busy these few days... no time to shoot at all. So I only managed to shoot out my window one time. So this is my one and only shot.
