wah you found the best bang lobang! :bsmilie: good for u...

the red light is the red eye reduction thing.. if you want to remove the red light...

use the following
- remove red eye in setup
- remove infra red assisted auto focus

then no more red light liaoz! :bsmilie:

hope it helps

one more thing about red eye.. if red eye exists after the photo is taken, u can use canon's in-built red eye removal program within the camera.. it works wonders! its really quite the best bang!... read up ur manual... red eye removal is now possible even during play back mode!

Removal red eye in setup and infra red assisted auto focus wont help much and still have abit red eye. The best thing is using manual mode/ Program mode. Best adjust with ISO, lighting type setting and no flash/lower flash. 99% Auto mode have red eye Even the software dont help much and most turn red eye into white eye, LOL.
All I can say is Manual mode solved everything and picture can be considered above average quality level. Well, such a cheap camera can give you such an above average quality is really a bang for the bucks.

Weixiang, ur girlfriend has a taste on choosing camera. I have no regret buying this camera too. Most of my friends are not satisfied with their cameras, LOL. I am too not happy with their cameras, ;p

Just wonder what is the free gift from Canon. Do they give 4 battery and a charger, plus 2G SD Card?

Yes, I just bought mine yesterday. This is Canon offer now.
Its really worth and Digital Camera must have rechargeable batteries in order to perform. The higher the maH, the better lasting the power. Best with 2500maH above.

I bought on Tue. Got a GP charger and batteries and SD card (not redeem from Canon). Thinking of buying additional SD card. Any idea on what to look out for for SD card. I see many of the 2G SD, but do not have high speed printed. Any suggestion?

Well, there are so many types of high speed on the market now. The latest cost few hundred dollars. It really depends on how much is your budget. Well, I prefer Toshiba SD cards because they are more faster than most of the brands and more reliable. In fact, all my cards are Toshiba

Hahahahaha! nice batteries!

Canon gave me 4 pcs 2700mAH free, LOL
Only the brand is lousy. Well, its free so and 4 pcs is more than enough for me. I can use for 2 years! LOL.

Ability to adjust the camera manually is really good. Luckily I choose this brand and model.
Normal and cheaper rechargeable batteries, standard SD card and best free charger and batteries which cost $30!!! at least. No funny things that will makes us regret on this camera.

Only disadvantage is heavy and a bit bulky. My gal dont like it but I dont care. I prefer cheap and good, LOL

haha.. in fact my gal started off with the grandfather of A80... she is looking at a dSLR  from canon too.. she is really a canon supporter

My personal view:

No point to buy a higher speed than 50X SD card because it wont make a different in viewing your photo in the camera. A faster SD card speed only improves at your computer's card reader.
I suggest dont keep your years of pictures in the SD card because when it breaks down, all gone, bye bye, LOL. Its better to keep those nice pics in a hardisk or DVD disk. CD-rom are too little for pictures file and you will be ended up frustration of so much storage medias piled up. A good SD card is preferred because I dont want to lose those few days pictures and efforts. Usually we print mostly at A4 papers so 1600 X 1200 should be more than enough. 1600 X 1200 file size will be under 1MB/picture so a 2GB SD card can store more than 2k pictures. A heavy tourist shooter only needs a 2GB card for 10 days vacation. Asians usually go for maximum of 20 days holiday which is unlike Europeans working and living culture. So 2 pcs of SD card is more than enough as this camera gave you a free 2 SD card. Usually everyone at these days bring along their laptop so 1 pc of 2GB SD card is enough for those who have laptops.

Just for you guys to know, Very high speed SD cards are best for programs usage devices, for example, those PC pockets. Programs are getting bigger and more complicated so even the fastest SD cards will not be enough for those extreme fast new developed softwares.

There is also miniSD, should I buy so that I have best of both worlds. Is there a lot of devices using miniSD and also SDHC?

Closeup from previous marco.... 100% crop

I sometimes try macros with an IXUS 850 (would have gone for Powershot had I known about the manuals) to get macros. Just wondering how close were you holding your camera to the flower/bee? And was zoom used? :)

In 2006, the most popular and sold are SD cards, followed by mini SD.
Mini SD are nice but not fast enough to catch up with SD on price and speed.
Before I buy tis camera, I have given a very long thought if I should trade-in the new SD card and use a mini SD with adapter. Mini SD is slightly more exopensive by few bucks due to the adapter provided. I have a pocket pc which uses a mini SD. After long considerations, I decided to use this camera with SD card because I dont need interchange this card with another device and prefer permanently in the camera. I uses the provided USB cable to download the pictures to my hardisk and backup from hardisk to DVD-RW. Most of the device PC pocket phone, mp3, mp4,..) gives you a free USB cable and its fast enough to download safely.
SDHC is a SD card too and means SD high capacity which is a standard of file format for above 2GB capacity. In the market now, there is no camera using mini sd card yet but with the provided adapter, you can use it in any SD card devices.
If you have a SD card on hand, you can choose to have another mini sd because you might need it if your new handphone is using mini sd. If you dont have any sd card, it is not necessary to waste that extra money on a mini sd card. You wont know if your new hp in the future will be using mini sd. Technically advise, one card one device is best. Furthermore, flash memory cards price drop tremendously fast as new technology surfaces too fast.
SDHC are designed for those high memory capacity hunger device example pocket pc programs. Mini SD are concentrated on mobile phones market and micro SD are in very tiny devices like MP3 and MP4 players. I wouldnt buy micro SD yet as they are so expensive.
SD, mini SD, micro SD are in one family and can use adapters to be converted to SD size.
Canon had given a free 2 GB SD card so if you are thinking a backup card, go for 2GB mini SD because its just a few bucks more expensive. But you must consider that if you want to use this mini SD for your future phone, it might be too small and too slow for new generations programs. If you buy after your new phone, the price of new SD card is totally very different. It really depends on what you want.

This is a very nice shot. I too like this picture very much. I think this is a not so close shot and istead used a zoom. I will not risk to be sting by the bee and the bee will fly away if you are too near. Am I right, bro weixiang?

IXUS is nice because of the weight and size. Powershot is better on picture quality. I have surveyed for 3 days and 3 nites before decided to buy this brand and model.
I hate regrets.

I got the charger and batteries from the shop too. It seems that they redeemed it. The charger and batteries I got is brand: Powerbase. Never heard of it. I heard GP are not not so good and more expensive than other brands with same specifications. From Canon webiste, I see the pictures are modified printed Canon on the charger. The batteries are different too, Its 2 batteries packed together. I wonder if this is what Canon gives but the shop told me its original what Canon gives.

mmz... well the price difference between a 50X and 120X card is very marginal... only about a few dollars difference... and yes, i do use the video cam function in A570IS intensively... @ 320x240 res, 30fps... at times i would even go up to 640x480 res, 30 fps.. therefore, imho, getting a 120X is the best bang for your $$$... especially when writing / reading from the card..

at times, i even find myself using it as a backup thumb drive, due to its extreme high write / read speed capability... >20Mb/sec... :sweatsm:

and mmz... during my recent trip to shanghai, i brought with me about 8gb worth of SD card, and i used about 7Gb worth of stuff :sweatsm: i have since transfered them out and saved them in DVD roms.. i made 2 copies

yup, i used a zoom... ;) actually, ixus is a good camera, just that for my personal preference, i dun need such a small camera... S3/S5 is way too big for me, not to mention its price.. although still affordable. dSLR is not for me at the moment, as i only newbie :bsmilie:

so being a full manual camera, A570IS is the best choice for me... and not to forget, it uses friendly AA rechargable batteries.. able to get 300-400+ shots per 2 AA rechargeable batteries is really best bang for me!

i second that.. and pls DUN use alkaline / lithium batteries.. they DUN last :bsmilie:
you would only be wasting ur own $$$...

my recommendation is like what was mentioned, getting 2500mah and above batteries.. if you are using Sanyo 2500, please ensure what you have gotten is the new batch.. I was using the old batch and experienced severe battery discharge... since then, i have gotten 12 batteries replacement at Sanyo for free! what was given, is the new package in orange colour, and best of all, its still made in japan!

and that's my purpose in creating this thread.. to let all buyers to have a chance to see how this entry powershot camera can perform ;)

i was pretty  when i couldn't find any threads on this camera in CS  now sweat no more  ... hope this can be sort of an official A570IS thread :p

One feature I find about A570IS is that it allows zooming when you are taking video, not much mentioned on this feature on most of the spec.
