Canon Malaysia reduced its RRP, prices for lens & bodies are dirt cheap now in MY!

just to confirm is the prices same for the whole of malaysia or mainly KL only??

The price drop is across the board, but different location will have different price.

Generally, Penang is cheapest, followed by Ipoh, KL then JB. Price difference is about RM$100+-

It is just like Cathay Photo vs Parisilk.

I once bought the 15-85 from JB at RM$1900. that is cheaper than other shop further north up, so I guess it depends on model also.

Talking about tax,
not sure if everyone knows this, but it seems after SG election might have rumour that GST might rise to 10%.

Buy in KL if u happen to go there, else JB good enough. The price difference when converted to SGD still quite ok.

Look for my earlier posting. I have listed a few trusted AD in JB.

Just curious now that there is no more international warranty. If the camera or lens spoils, is there a service centre in JB or must go to KL only?

No worries.

It is about 20 minutes drive from the causeway. During collection, still can drop by Danga Bay to take picture of sunset :)

Singapore cameras and lenses are more expensive than elsewhere because of the 7% GST... 7% GST on a $3000 lens is a hefty $210!

Nonsense. It has nothing to do with GST.

Even if you take the street prices of lenses from HK or even USA/Japan and add 7% GST, the prices in SG are much higher.

And I'm sure shops which sell grey sets like DD Electronics charge GST and have to pay GST on the imports, but they are still able to sell cheaper compared to local stock.

That's great news.
I heard all the lenses come with 2 years malaysia local warranty?

Is the whole of Malaysia. But still depends how much lower the sellers are willing to reduce (street price) based on the recently reduced RRP.

time to make friends with some malaysians....
Interested? Wanna join me? I might be going KL to get the 17-55mm or 15-85mm. Price is just $1360 and $950 respectively after conversion.

Wah, so cheap? The chepest I can find is $950 in KL.

Hope SG will reduce it oso.. I not too sure about warranty tho.. for me 1 year warranty on lenses is more than sufficient as Canon lenses has very high quality control.

My classmate working at the Canon Malaysia located at Shah Alam, Selangor. She told after I asked her if there's any amendment to the RRP. Well, the answer was clearly, no.
If you find it cheaper than RRP, that could be street price.

SG should really reduce their price as well... otherwise, SG gonna lose its competitiveness not only to local buyers but overseas tourist.

Canon SG, please do something about it weyy!

Canon 7D+15-85mm only $2,580 after conversion
Canon 70-200mm IS USM II f2.8L only $3,125... way cheaper than grey sets offered by DDE..
