Canon Malaysia Lower the price for 5DM2, 7D and 50D

Canon has updated the promo list.
7D RRP has been slightly reduced.
EOS 7D kit EF S15-85 IS USM $3,699.00 ($3,849.00)
EOS 7D kit EF S18-135 IS $3,099.00 ($3,249.00)
EOS 7D body $2,549.00 ($2,699.00)

No news for 5DII. And the rest (500D, 50D) seems same.
Price of S90 also slightly reduced.

Wonder how much this reduction would affect CS's BnS market...

Isn't it troublesome if 5D II body has some deffect prob (or even wana service) & has to keep driving to JB,fuel + stupid jam would have burned a huge hole in your wallet? Might as well buy here?

I seriously don't expect to have to need repair for my brand new Canon often enough to find it troublesome to go to JB, otherwise I would consider the unit a lemon. For out of warranty repair or regular service, just go to Harbourfront, which isn't exactly close for those living in the north anyway.

If the price is about S$200 cheaper in JB, i think it is worth the trip there, esp for those who travel across frequently.
My opinion is that camera would not spoil within the warrenty period. It usually happen after the warrenty period. As if there is a self timed demage trigger in-planted in the system.

The most benefit from buying in M'sia will be 1+2 warranty. And the cheapest will only get in Penang. In JB need to go for correct place, but still not as cheap as in Penang. JB is the Angsana plaza if not wrong. Someone correct me.

As for service, as I mentioned earlier, will have to expect 2 trips (send there and collect back after about 10 working days).

but yes, usually camera won't spoilt that easy (that need to send service) unless it is a lemon unit.

So again, this buying in M'sia will be suitable for
1. Frequent traveler to Penang / JB
2. Don't mind to wait

was at CP few days ago. overheard from the sales person that 7D is 23xx.

I received a quotation from 1 penang shop, 5d2 kit = RM9890

I live in Thailand and the exchange rate between the Ringgit and Baht is exactly 10. At 5,999 Ringgits, this would make the 7D body about 60,000 Baht, but the price in Thailand is about 48,000 Baht. If my calculations are correct, Malaysians could hop across the border for a weekend, buy their cameras, and have a free weekend in the Land of Smiles with the money they save.

Will Malaysians run the risk of getting the new camera taxed by custom when they return?

probably just throw the box away or hide it somewhere... so it looks like you brought your camera for the holiday/trip...

From what I know, if leave from Airport generally are fine.
Bur leave from southern borders of Thailand to M'sia, maybe just unwrap the whole thing .

Don't Thai have tax rebate like SG? :D
How bout HK? Cause I went to SimLim Square. One of the salesman told me No No .. SG/HK cheaper. But I checked the price @ KL seems to be lowered. Feels like got cheated. :embrass:

From my research on Canon Item, M'sia (Penang) is much cheaper than SG, for camera body. Lenses, I've not much check pricing in M'sia, for a few item (like EFS55-250 / EFS17-55) M'sia is still cheaper, but just like minus away the GST of SG's.

However, for sure, camera and lenses in HK is much cheaper. Especially current exchange rate. Usually, is about 9% to 12% less than what sell in SG (SG include GST)

check consumer forum for sticky thread by CS TAN, about HK's stuff.

My friends colleague get 5DII with kits lens for SGD4350 at Penang.Very cheap compare to SG.
