Canon Lenses NO MORE International Warranty?

Having need to show profitability for each business centre, they would have to achieve economy of scale and maintain sustainable business model. These would increase the bottom line and not constant P&L.
If Canon pricing is similar worldwide, maybe its also good to apply the theory to Apple iPhone and iPad to follow US and all those designer brand in Sg to follow European pricing too! :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

canon malaysia also give long warranty...
1 + 2 years for online register....
only flash 15 month warranty...

SG - JB very near... have 1 shop at plaza angsana give good price...
that shop Johan Photo at level 4...

just took the plunge and got myself the EF-S 17-55 at SLRR... fortunately this one is still international warranty. seems like the guy at the shop is unaware of this news too.

maybe its like only for new batches of lens...

the lens that are in the shops are still covered??

does that make sense?

I'm absoutely disappointed at Canon's decision to case its International Warranty policy. Imagine I'm travelling and need to service my lens due to a failure, not only would i have to pay for servicing charges, but also the labour charges.

Is their profits from the dslr division affected as a result of offering international warranty????

Then again, fortunately I never had to send any of my Canon lenses back yet.

From the Canon SC people, they said as long as the warranty card are green in colour (written international warranty) will be covered.

hmmmm i had juz bought myself a 70-200 from the US... Warranty states only in US. Does tat means im screwed? If service or calibrating or cleaning is required, would it be ex?

Went to buy my EF 28 f1.8 last week. Visited John 3:16 to test out the lens and saw that it was the local warranty set (Was thinking this lens was produced quite recently, should be quite good).

Visited Alan Photo as the price was slightly cheaper and saw that the warranty is still the international. The copy was also slightly sharper at the edges.

With 3 advantages, bought it on the spot.

You saved money, how screwed can that be?

For servicing and what not, the charges will be those that can be at Canon's website (http://www.canon.com.sg/personal/support/servicecharges).

Shheeesh... the Class B service is already $180... and im still figuring out the defination of sharp on my lens.. :what:

 Use your savings on that, if you ever need it to begin with.

Use microadjustment if you have to. Take care of your lens. I would avoid taking my lens in for servicing if I can avoid it, even if I have lifetime warranty on it. When you bring your lens in, do you know how they treat it? It is NOT their personal lens after all. I work in I.T., and I know this for a fact: for my own laptop, I baby it, but when someone else bring their laptop in for service, I am less careful, a little bump here, a little knock there, who cares? As long as it leaves no trace of any abuse, I am not going to baby it like I do my own laptop.

Some people seem to like to bring their lens in for calibration or cleaning or what not, during the warranty period as if, if they don't they are not taking full advantage of the warranty. First, like I mentioned above, you just don't know how they treat your lens when you're not looking. Second, Canon is a business and more warranty requests will just add to their cost of doing business and that extra cost will get passed on to us as consumer of lenses in the future.

Die.... The lens is not sharp at all... my 17-85 is razor sharp compared to the 70-200 f4... Had to do some micro adjustments on it.. But what would your advice be? use microadjustment or send in for calibration?

Is your purchase not comes with any warranty (at least shop warranty?)
I try to avoid online transaction for purchasing lenses. Last time I purchased 24-105L from B&H, and the lens I received has loose mount, but luckily comes with international warranty and CSC Singapore can tighten and fix it

My set is from amazon... Dun think i wanna bother sending back to them.. Cost is as good as paying for calibration..

Really let down by this piece... Was shocked when the 17-85 is sharper than the 70-200 f4..

This lens is super expensive in Singapore... why did you buy it here?

US never had international warranty... and these things happen. So the savings must exceed the cost of expected service for it to make sense.

Defect always be there; even with OEM lenses, even with L premium lenses...
Now depend on you to justify which option is cheaper and more dependable...
If in your situation, I also will not resend back to get another copy; no warranty that another copy is better. I'll just go to CSC to do calibration (or service).

Since this thread is being brought up again, would like to check with fellow CSer,

Is it now more and more lenses in the market mix with the local warranty sets?
just share your encounter, if any :)
