Canon G10

Never say 420Ex..

That's because the 420EX is discontinued? The 430EX is also discontinued, so they put the 430EXII. E-TTL metering and everything will be the same.

I was actually pondering whether to buy the G10 or the LX3. The LX3 is far better looking IMO & that f2.0 lens is sweeeet!
But i'm glad Canon decided to go 28mm with the G10, just hoping to see more high ISO sample images given the specs stated that it has improved high ISO performance. If it can beat out my aging F30, I will def get one!!

hmm it has Servo AF

the new look needs a bit getting used to (esp the iso and mode dials)

though im not too concerned about the look, how about the performance and image quality? i hope the noise handling is better than in g7/g9

Canon G10 got no Aperture priority & Shutter priority? :dunno:

I think the SX1 IS is a better deal, with cmos sensor, HD movies, 4fps shooting and 20x zoom... ;p

is it only me but i am sorta disappointed by this new flagship model.. :dunno:

the lens is kinda 'slow'.. (compared with the panasonic lx3) and too much pixels...do we actually need 14.7mp?

I think it has more or less become a requisite for a new model to boast more megapixels than its predecessor whether it seems sensible or not. Won't be too long before a flagship Powershot G series comes with 21 megapixels.

I wonder how much will it cost this time. G9's price was pretty the same till the released and till now .. .. hmm

Hmm.. if not for the "compactness" factor, wouldn't purchasing a 1000D kit be more worth it than the G10 when it comes out?

erm, anyone knows if it has hit our shores?

It is already in the stores. Went to Best Denki at Parkway Parade today and was quoted $869. The optical viewfinder is very bright and in my view better than an EVF but the camera feels a bit "plasticky" unlike the G9 which has a rather solid feel.

I've bought mine. (Don't ask me how much because it's employee discount (not canon))

Here are the first few pictures taken to test the ISO.

Goal: To see if the physical size shot will have any impact on the noise level. Comparing 14.7MP vs 5MP at both ISO 80 and ISO 800.

Result: There's no difference.

For pixel peepers, click the photos for more size options.

My thoughts so far:
I've a Fujifilm F31D. I feel that at ISO 800, the G10's noise is comparable to the F31D. No lab test, but that's how I feel.

I don't print photos. At ISO 800, the noise might be starting to distract web viewers, even for 1024 - 1600px wide web images. These images above at 500px wide. Noise isn't really that noticeable yet.

Will be posting more shots when I have time.

how come the color contrast dropped at ISO 800!?

Just found one dead pixel on my LCD around the bottom left. Didn't manage to see it at the shop.
Anyway, I'm not going to change the camera for that. It's a minor issue. Not noticeable when reviewing photos on the screen.

There is increased pixel density in this 3-inch LCD. Each pixel is now smaller.
If you're checking for dead pixel, you have to look really hard.

And also ask the sales assistant their exchange policy if you're a fussy buyer.

Personnally i am not that satisfied with this G10..I still feel that G9 is still more solid when compare to G10..
But of course, people tend to go for something latest instead of something better..;)
With the digic 4 processor, this G10 did improve a little bit on the photo quality.
Especially with the AI Servo and auto focusing without half press the shutter button.
But all this just seem like a bonus point when comparing to G9.
Unless those who really need a wide angle camera and those that need the 14.7mp.
One thing for sure is the man behind the camera decide the quality of the photo taken..
A good photo is not measure by how good is the camera...
And now i wonder when the G11 or G12 will coming out next...:bsmilie::bsmilie:

Hmm....

Anybody has quote on of the prices from the regular stores ?

Thanks! ;)

Thanks! That sounds good!

Think will drop by either MS or TK one of these days and chat with them on this. The camera is really tantalizing!

Especially so after I saw over at DPR this nifty little flash :

Its tiltable and it uses 2xAA batteries for about 250 shots! Great for family outings!
