Just wanna ask why people always use PS?
Must we use PS in order t have nice pictures?
For me, I don't like using PS cause I feel that it's not natural and original.
Sorry not trying t say that PS is bad. Just my opinion :D

Basically to post-process or not is really up to individual's preference.
I'd generally do (although not with PS) and it's a part of the workflow for me.

As for natural or not, it is also quite subjective. Some like minor contrast tweaks while some go Quake-style.

I think its a personal thingy. Using of PS is also part of my workflow.

Not all shots are perfect, IMO. Sometimes, you get a keeper's shot on the LCD but on the computer screen, it might have flaws so got to touch it up a bit.

Try downsizing a 12MP photo to an internet-friendly size... if you don't do sharpening it would most probably be "blur" even with the sharpest lens.... :bsmilie:

not necessarily if your resizing options are put correctly.
btw, i think a little PS..or even alot wont do harm.here's one from me hehehe

:) I read a comment about this in a magazine once and found the answer quite interesting.

A writer wrote that post processing via computer is no different from allowing your camera to do it for you. In other words, when you take pictures in jpeg, the camera has actually done the PP for you already but when you shoot RAW then you have to do the adjustments yourself. So really there is no such thing as "natural and original"...it's a matter of who does the PP, your camera or yourself.

I understand that you are using "Bicubic Sharper", but you still unable get the same sharpness you get from the original photo...

Example: Try taking a 12MP close-up portrait shot, where it is so sharp that you can see the subject's facial hair... Then downsize it to 800x600... look at the eyes of the subject... before and after sharpen. :)

Hi All,

My 1st post here as a newbie in using DSLR. Have been using my dad's Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 for 2 years before deciding on the Canon EOS 450D.

I'm really glad to see so many experts here using the same model which makes me more at ease as I really know very little of DSLR, less to say 450D but I'm trying to learn as much as I could and I'm glad to find CS forum being such as great place for info, advices and tips.

I finally took my virgin EOS 450D out last Sunday for some light shooting and playing around with some features for a beginner like me.

Please do give me some tips and comments on how I can do better with the camera and shooting. No flaming please as this is my 1st time shooting with DSLR.

I'm currently using the Canon Zoom lens EF-S 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS 72mm ø. Picture taken with ISO100/200, exposure -1, W/B mode: Cloud / Indoor, Shutter off, Shutter speed 500.

Baby Red Dragonfly, normal zoom. Picture taken under grey sky and cloudy conditions.

Not sure of it's name so I call it Yellow bird based on it's color :P.

Taken from hse kitchen. Love the Clouds, hate the rain as I can't go far to shoot pictures...

Taken from hse living room. I somehow like the way how the view is structured but I hope to do better in this kind of shots.

Many Thanks for your time!

Welcome to the club.

Do bring your cam out to shoot more often and also check out the photo sections.
Sincere comment and hope it doesn't come across as harsh.

1.) Your shots are more like snapshots. You need to have something in your frame that captures the attention.

2.) Your DF isn't quite a baby. It is blur. Then again, the lens u are using probably isn't a suitable one for macro work.

Without going into extreme magnification, DF shots should look something like these:

Some people thought using PS in photograph is such a "cheating" way to have a good result. Some photographers are just too sentimental not to edit the photos came out from the camera. But think about this, the film era, we used to use the Photo Lab (dark room) to Crop, Adjust brightness, contrast, level and even touch-up the photograph. Now, the same process can be done in few seconds in the computer. Then, why we don't do it?

When people hire u to shoot hmm.. let say a wedding photo.. would u like to have a good result with a magic touch using PS with a vibrant color or just a bland color of photographs w/o PS?

Here are some words from some great local & international photographers

"I edit 99% of my photos" - Bazuki, Reuters
"Photographer without Photoshop like a Car without engine" - Sham, Batrisyia.com
"I'm just doing the darkroom process in my photoshop" - ME

that's my opinion bro and below some result original photo and edited photo with PS.

Well...u judge it :)

Cheers!

I took some test shots with my friend's 450D. I own the Panny fz28 prosumer, but I really like the sharpness of the 450D.

Taken with kit lens.

My guess is you are not using a CPL filter?

Anyway, get a CPL filter. I used to think that I can achieve the effect of not overexposing the sky until I got hold of a CPL. Nothing in PP can do what a CPL can do. ;)

Hi RyanG,

By the term CPL filter, are you referring to Polarize filter?

Sorry for the noob question as I'm really new to DSLR world.:embrass:

Arigato!
:D
