I think instead of getting number 2, get the 55-250. As for the 1st one, it's good, but get it only if you need it, don't get stuffs just for the sake of getting it.
For the 1st one, I would like to get it as I kinda like to take portrait. 50mm is for portrait right?

For number 2, mind to explain why 55-250 instead of 18-200?

P/S: Maybe I don't know the purpose of using those lens, I just read from forumer and just follow. That's call poison? ;p

Well, if you were to see it in this perspective, Nikon only makes cameras, lens and optical equippment. Nothing else, so all their research energy is going only into one area. Canon, makes printers, photocopiers + cameras, lens and optical equippment. They have much more to do R&D on. Canon is picking up on the technology, because Nikon is bringing in newer technology by the day. Just that they are a little slow. The internal flash trigger might be available next time on the newer camera.

Hope it helps. You are always welcome friend.

I guess I will camp my 1st post over here this thread, since I planning to get 450D very soon, maybe before CNY.

Shifu, guide me if possible, because I will be asking lots of noob questions. Beginner going into dSLR world:bsmilie:

My 1st question, any good deal recently for 450D with kit lens 18-55m?

After 450D, my next purchase would be
1) EF 50 f/1.8 II
2) EF S18-200 f3.5-5.6IS

Do comment, not sure it is right choice a not:dunno:
Hi Joshua,

I would say, if you were to get the 18-200mm lens, it'll be a real waste. Because it's heavy. I don't think you want your DSLR to produce sub-par images that a normal Digicam can do. The 18-200mm lens is good for its long range, but picture quality and IQ are affected as the range gets longer, and the amount of glass elements needed to achieve this range. It's something called refraction, as the light goes a long distance through different glass elements, some of the light is lost through refraction. So that's why this lens doesn't give much of a very good picture. But it is certainly useful for traveling, as you don't have to keep changing lens. Then again, you have to think of this, DSLR photography is all about changing lens. If you want to just use one lens during traveling, you don't get that "joy" of swapping lens and having that personal feeling that you own a few lens and you know how to use them accordingly to different situations.

So if i were you. Get the 450D + Kit lens first. The Kit lens is a great lens. Don't look down on it. It can produce very good pictures as well.

Then if you are ready for the next step, get something else that you need. Maybe these 2 lenses can suit your needs. The 50mm f1.8 and the 55-250mm telephoto lens.

These are 2 great lenses with good picture outputs for a great price. You certainly will like these 2 lenses.

After these, maybe in a few years or months, you can consider L grade lenses which are more expensive. L grade lenses use as few glass elements as possible and each glass element/batch, is made by just one person.

Then again, you can have the most expensive stuff, but it all boils down to the guy/girl behind the camera. How your brain views a picture and its composition. How to use the settings on a camera to produce very nice effects.

So look into your needs, rather than to buy something on impulse and let it sleep at home.

Hope it helps. All the best in photography.

I do not know about other store. OP seems to give discount easily. I went twice.

Once for dry cabi + filter. Another for the bag. Both times I openly asked for discount, they give it to me.

But one thing do take note, they have grey sets so check and clarify before purchasing and walk out of the store.

Anyway, it's quite an ok store to frequent as many thought since this shop in sim lim so must be bad. I had my experiences to share as per above just need to know what you are buying and getting you won't go wrong. :)
I agree with the above mentioned stores you had talked about. OP, is not bad either, but their price tends to be a little high, if you don't bargain. Haha. But i don't really like going Sim Lim, because they like to tout the stores.

wah so fast kena BBB virus?

i'd say.. get the 450D body only and the 17-55mm f2.8 lens.. i bought it with the kit only to replace the kit lens with this powderful lens..

planning to get the 55-250 soon though..

guys, what focal ranges do u all bring to the zoo? or night safari? i think flash photography is not allowed?
Well, as for the safari, it depends, you need at least some light for exposure. Best is to bring your 17-55mm f2.8 lens. I'm not too sure about flashes being allowed at the zoo, but they were some cases that the flash light, startled the animals and hurt some of the zookeepers. So just to be safe, don't use flash so that no one gets hurt.

But still look out for those lampost lights that light up the area a little, you might be able to get a nice shot. Bump the iso to 1600 and use f2.8 aperture. Do note the depth of field would be small though.

Hope it helps!

Err, not really, i don't know everything in this world. It just since young, i'm into science and how things work. Or rather should i say, i'm keen in knowing the existence or the basis of each individual object or item. It's just for general knowledge. Haha.

Thanks for the compliments.

Not really, my electrical background has nothing to do with it. Infact i'm starting to dislike my course right now. Seems pretty useless and boring at times. Haha.

Well, just read and know information. It's very good for you. Some day it'll help you.

Take care.

Yup. Must bargain at OP. They usually quote higher over phone, email and verbal (walk-in). Just be thick skin and ask to save a few bucks.

Btw, I did asked for the 70-200mm f/4L IS USM. They are selling at $1620 before discount (Canon Warranty). From what I see, if you get the lens + filter, perhaps the lens will go for $1.6k? Didn't ask much, just test some water. Haha! :D

I think i can get it lesser. Haha. But i don't have that kind of money right now. I'm either aiming for a 17-40L, or a 17-55mm, or maybe a 100mm f2.8 + 430EXII.

GMAN

Oh..

Anyway, I also dun have the $$ but hopefully I can build something around this setup of

16-35mm f/2.8L II USM + 24-105mm f/4L IS USM + 70-200mm f/4 IS USM + 430EX II

Every range is covered plus overlapping. :bsmilie:

A long way to go. Haha.

I was wondering if i should get a 17-40L or a Tamron 17-50mm. Canon 17-55mm, is too expensive for me. :(

I intend to save about $1000 by this November.

If i were to get 17-40L i can only get that + a B+W Filter.

If i were to get the tamron 17-50mm, i can get that plus a B+W filter, plus a 430EXII.

Problem is i'll be going to NS in 2010, after my course finishes and the items would problerly be sleeping in the dry cabinet, only used when i'm booked out of camp.

Go with your heart bro.

Btw, go army right, tell your officer about your passion in photography and you may just ended up shooting for Pioneer Mag or other army publications/events. Haha!

I did that but not with Pioneer Mag. I mostly shoot for army events. The 2 biggest I am involved is the Army Open House in 2004 and Combined Army Exercise with the Brunei Royal Forces. ;)

Both are awesome experiences.

Oh cool. I'll do that then. Do they have any incentives for you to buy stuff. Haha.

I'm eyeing on the tamron + flash...hmm, but it'll be nice to have my first L lens. Haha.

Not sure about incentives to buy photography equipment. I requested for a DSLR and accessories and I do not know where they got it. Perhaps they rented or something as at the time, I still do not have my own DSLR. ;p

But I requested a 500GB HDD through my officer and immediately they approved. Haha! :bsmilie:

im not so sure about that! he might not show his officers the pics he took...in fact he might do a ninja boy and not show up for the events! :bsmilie:

Yeah AWOL. Absent without official leave. I used to catch people who "AWOL-ED" during NCC. Haha. Shot a rifle before. AR-15/M 16, nothing so great. Blah blah, then bang bang...marks man. Haha!!!
