hi thanks for your advice. i think im set on buying the 450D. wheee..
its a malay wedding. theres no indoor ceremony, it should be under the void deck, i have an external flash now.

so if my budget is 1.3k is it enuff for a starter kit? i can accumulate more accessories by the next few months.

what should i get? planning to get it tomorrow ..whee! can't wait.

by starter kit u mean 450D with 18-55 kit lens? well 1.3k should be enough if u're buying from camera shops. most of them sell around 1100

hmm malay wedding i think u'd still need both a 24-70 + wide angle but if u're on budget for rental i think 24-70 wld cover most of the range (if i were u i wldn't risk not renting a wide angle since u're 1st photographer)

haha personally haven't done one yet (wld love too if the chance arises) but i'm judging frm pics i've seen on CS as well as those i see @ void decks

i really know nuts bout the setting... cos i just bought it 2 months ago for my holiday..

and didn't really play with it... worst come to worst.. ask everyone to keep still.. hahaha

when is your shoot? i did my 1st wedding ard 3 months into photography & also wasn't into wedding photography @ that point but i thought why not give it a try and i found it was so much fun as much as it was tiring haha

Your kit lens is certainly not sufficient enough. I am preparing for a ROM shoot in Mar and I'm taking an external flash + a prime lens (85 or 135) + a general purpose zoom lens (24-105 probably) with me.

great choice in equipment! if u're afraid of weight (i'm not though) i'd suggest u ditch the prime cos the zoom + flash heavy enough already

I dun mind the weight thou. I shoot an event using 70-200 f/2.8 handheld all the way. It's a killer to my wrist. Haha!

you're just shooting the wedding for fun, or were you asked to shoot? if for fun, just the kit lens enough liao, or buy a Canon EF 35mm F/2 lens if you want to take shots with better bokeh..

I shot at a friend's malay wedding (AM @ Sultan Mosque, PM @ HDB estate Function Hall) recently, take a look at the angles and shots.. The equipment I used was 450D, Canon EF-S 18-55mm kit lens, Canon EF-S 55-200mm tele lens, Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 prime lens (I discovered this lens was inappropriate on the 1.6x crop body for this kind of shoot), Canon Speedlite 420EX flash. Just bought a new flash to replace my faulty one.

It is shared between my S5 IS and my 450D. lol, with the accessories, it makes my S5 IS looks very small.

i would advise getting 430EXII if you have budget

It's 430EXII my friend. Haha. Or you refering to the 580 EXII, there is no 480EX II flash.
