Hi guys, I wanted to ask for some advice on which flash to get for my 450D.. As I'm on a kinda budget, I think 580EXII is out of the question..

Anyways, I was thinking between the following options:

1) Brand New 430EXII
2) 2nd hand 430EX I or II
3) 2nd hand 420EX
4) 2nd hand 550EX

I'm leaning more towards 430EXII, cuz i's prob the most powerful one I could afford.. but just wondering on comments of the differences between that and the other ones..

I plan to use it more for indoor shots bah.. maybe use it to illuminate foreground for night photography too..

430EXII is the best out of your option.

I am also looking to get the 430EX II cos I do not need such high output like the 580EX II. But wondering if the 430EX II can actually used as a slave. I'm not new to photography but new to flash photography. Haha! ;p

Anyway, I'm getting my Lowepro Stealth Reporter later @ CP. ;)

The 430EXII is actually a slave. You can get a 580EXII(Master) and use 430EXII as slaves.

I'm also looking into the 430EXII, but i'm not into much of flash photography. Most of the time the flash doesn't return natural ambient light effects. But correct diffusion of the flash light can make a picture look very nice as well.

Happy bag shopping!

The 580EX II is very pricey sio. I am already having a hard time saving up for my 70-200. Haha! Adding the 580EX II means I need to starve for months. Not a way to start 2009. Haha! :bsmilie:

I wasn't asking you to get the 580EXII, just explaining how it works. Haha. You can still get the 430EXII if you need flash fills. Very decent and nice flash. Why is everyone running into the white 70-200mm lens. My 55-250 can zoom further, just that its optics and picture quality can't be compared much with the 70-200mm. I find the 70-200mm a little restricting. I already find my 250mm zoom not enough. Haha.

70-200 makes a good telephoto. Still manageable to walk around with it but draws lots of stares.

Good for close-up from a far distance and focusing is fast with the f/2.8 version.

430 EX II is very sufficient for starters who are into flash photography.Well i also have one and never regret buying it after i had sometime choosing whether a 430 or 580.Well when you're more into strobes by then, can always buy a 580ex II or a flash trigger to fire your slave flash units.
Flash are more useful when your doing indoor events or macro (depend on situations) as you already had know.kekekekeke
Seems like you also have the same target as me.70-200.what model are u targeting? F4lL IS USM or F2.8 IS USM?
Good Luck to ya and may 2009 be a great year for all:)

Sell away to fund for it. ;)

I nearly plunge my $$ into the 55-250 but was pulled back by a friend to straight go for the 70-200mm.
