I gaffered tape my Manfrotto tripod, to give it a different look, rather than the conventional black colour. But using gaffer tapes on metal surfaces can get tricky. Because it doesn't stick as easy on metals compared to plastic.Rachel Liang and SHE?
Gaffer tape is used to protect the exterior of the equipments. Said to have the property of not leaving residue after removal.

Tamron or Sigma can easily outperform it.
Forget about it. Find at least 28-105mm.

It is so good, but too expensive....Cannot afford..
As I'm not earning $$ from photography, can only get the Tamron 17-50 mm...

Nothing wrong with getting the Tamron now and when budget increase sell it off to get the EF-S 17-55

I think most ppl worry abt getting a 3rd party lens in the range cuz of the missing IS...at least that was my concern when I was deciding on changing my lens. But after taking the plunge with the Tamron, I have found that I could survive without the IS (at least for what I shoot).
I think I will only need the IS when I travel and want to take shots out of the window and the vibration from the car/bus will affect my shots or maybe after a drinking session then hand won't be steady enough :bsmilie:
:bsmilie: I guess the no. of stops that 17-55mm IS can do is insufficient for those drunkards!

I find the Canon EFS 17-55mm, built quality not as great as Tamron's 17-50mm built quality.
The 17-55mm, is bigger, but its zoom ring locks at 17mm and needs a little force to move it off 17mm. Not as smooth as the kit lens...about the same plastics used on the kit lens. The Tamron feels way nice. Though the zoom ring is tight, it takes the same amount of force to the zoom ring at any zoom range.
Downside, it has no IS, no little window to show you the focus lengths. A high pitched motor that sounds like Tamiya Cars. Haha:bsmilie: But it's a great lens. Made in Japan. Newer batches have faster AF focusing. Was trying it out with direct comparison with the 17-55mm, focus accurately and at about the same speeds.
Comes with a hood and pouch. 17-55m, comes with nothing but a big price.:sweatsm:
If you are not a fussy shooter, who likes taking your time to shoot. Get tamron lens. If you rush for everything, get the canon lens.

28 is not really wide on your cropped body.
28 * 1.6 (Crop Factor) = 44.8
You want wide should go for anything that's below 17. But those lenses will cost more.

If you want the 300 range, EF 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM. The only range with IS. 3rd parties models doesn't have it. At such range, you really need the IS.
A good entry tele will be the 55-250 f4-5.6 IS.

The 55-20 lens is kinda under-rated. It really is a good lens to start off with when getting into the higher range. I found that out when I took it for the F1 races last year. If this year I win tickets for the F1, I will again be using this lens.
