But I dun like the bulky-ness. Haha! I think might go for Optech if I need a change in the neck strap but currently, I'm happy with the original one.

I think they are.

It's bothering me only like twice monthly as I usually shoot with the monster 70-200 for church duties. :bsmilie:

anyone noe hw to fit the hand strap?:embrass:
Hand strap needs a battery grip, or a tripod mount plate to fix below. Battery grips have a notch below to insert the hand strap.

Hi Canon 450D users,

Would appreciate some advice on the Canon 450D lens. Went down to John3:16 to play with the 450D, it is a wonderful camera. So now Im thinking..

Should I just get the body... then find a 2nd hand lens? Coz Im looking at either a 17-85mm, or something along that range. Im not too familiar with the lens availability at this stage.

Because I want to use it mainly for travel purposes... the standard 18-55mm kit seemed to be quite limited for a general purpose lens... but coupled it with a 55-250mm seemed to be too heavy for travel uses.... best if I can stick to just one lens.

Looking at a brand new 17-85mm seemed to be out of my budget as well...

My budget is ard $970 for the body + a wider range lens of budget $200.

Body + 18-200? But I dun think the lens can get it for $200. Even the cheapest teles around like the tamron and sigma 70-300 is already $200+ for 2nd hand.

you're not going to get much out of that 200 dollar budget for a lens.

a good travel lens would be the 24 - 105L. which exceeds your budget for alot.

Just noticed that you are looking at 17-85mm, IMO, it's wide but what if you need the range and you missed some good shots. By the way, 17-85 doesn't come cheap also for a 2nd hand copy.

Since you are new and constrained with budget, try the 1000D, i'm sure you can part with the live view and stuff. To be frank, the 18-55mm is a great lens. Better than the 17-85mm or the 18-200. Though its range is limited, it's affordable. If you intend to use 1 lens for the rest of the camera's life, then you would rather get a prosumer camera with super zoom instead. Pardon me if i sounded harsh, but what i'm trying to tell you over here is that, DSLR is all about using different lenses. Travel or not, you still use different lenses.

Some may want a DSLR solely for travel and buy a DSLR with a long telephoto range. One that can do wide and telephoto. But when they come back, the complain, why certain pictures didn't turn out nice. Or why when i tried to take a nice portrait of someone, it wasn't that good. 1 lens does not fit every single situation. The larger a zoom range, you have more handshake, poorer image results, unless you are going to fork out on "L" lenses which have the best optics in the whole canon range.

Then again, it ultimately depends on how the shooter takes the image, you may have all the right lenses for the right situation, but when it comes to taking a good photo, if you don't know the right skills to it, those lenses become useless.

My suggestion to you. Get the 450D with the kit lens. If you find budget is tight, get the 1000D with the kit lens. Play around with the camera. Train yourself up, until one stage, you'll realise, hey, i need something better than my kit lens.

Hope it helps, and please forgive me if i have offended you in any manner.

Woah. Nice.

Sounds like me to all my friends who think that DSLR uses one lens that fits all.
