Which one should i get?

17-55mm F2.8 or 24-105mmL F4? Hmm...should be upgrading to a 5DMKII after NS, that's about 3 years later. So which one should i get? Hmm. I love both, but no money to get both. Hmm...What do you guys think.

Which one would you get for yourself? 18-55mm range is pretty decent, but limited according to different situations. 24-105mm is great, but not as wide on a 1.6x crop sensor body.

Could use some advice:bsmilie:

GMAN

17-55 is EFS.

wow cool. she's a performer or the organiser?

i tried to shoot chingay too. but many turned out bad. i used a 1/60 shutter to minimize blur from movement and used the built-in flash. the flash take some time to recharge and i missed a few precious shots.

did you face any problems? how to over come them?

regarding the 1/4000 shot with flash, i was just asking for the extreme hee..so i guess the condition must be very bright to shoot in 1/4000 ba.

anyway, what are the purposes and benefits for an external flash? how do i choose a good one? anyone to recommend? :D

She's part of the organizing party. =)

I used my 50mm at constant f/2.2 and bump my ISO all the way up to 1600. Occasionally I use my built-in flash when it's really bo bian. But surrounding me got so many PnS shooters, I somehow 'borrowed' their flashes. Haha! =D

External flashes recycle faster and you can manually set the flash exposure. It's good for portraits. Depending on what you want, if you are not a strobist then probably get a cheap 3rd party ones like Nissin or Sunpak. Or you can go for Canon's 430EX or EX II.

Err...bro don't get what you are trying to say, i did not state anything regarding EF-S or EF. I do know about the camera mounts. :)

GMAN

Ninja, 17-55mm F/2.8 has only EF-S mount only.
So, it cannot be used for your future 5DMKII.

I know bro, but i'll still have my 450D, still can use on it. Haha.

in that case, its no issue whether or not u upgrade to 5Dmk2. coz ultimately you still will be using 450D. your question will then be more of what range you would be using more. if so, im sure u wun need much advice since u know how to advise ppl what lens to get for what photography!

i have a question...

I was recently at marina barrage with 2 torches and a grp of crazy friends.. we took this picture:

IMG_6561_r_.jpg

how to make the both 'persons' visible and not transparent? they are both the same person, taken in one exposure.. there were many such shots we took that night, but i think this is the most acceptable for now.. all turned out transparent figures..

I was using the EFS17-55mm at F13, shutter in bulb mode, or so i think.. and 2nd curtain flash on the 430EX II...

anyone can help? I was thinking about a black card covering part of the lens when during the 1st 10 secs, then when the subject change postion use the black card to cover the other side...

Haha...Thanks bro. What lenses do you use yourself? Big question now is if i will get a 5D Mark II after NS. Most likely would go overseas to pursue education. Hmm......wah....zzz...haha.....i'm still siding on the 17-55mm + Hood + BW filter. Haha. Should be at least $1400+ in total. Hmm.....got to work first. Haha.

I once did try the black card technique on Henderson Waves with my friend to get that effect. Well, it looks opaque but not transparent/invisible.

Mine at 1.8 the bokeh is good but I didn't want too much bokeh so I fixed it at 2.2 which is the sharpest for my copy. =D

i had to google for strobist wor....strobist is one who uses small flash to "upgrade" their pictures? in that case ur recommendation shld be something bigger ba?

yeah i like the idea of "borrowing" light. makes the picture brighter haa. i set auto ISO. it never went beyond 800 so far. maybe i try manually setting it to 1600 next time. thanks for the tips :D

ha..seems like you are utterly impressed with that lens. can post some pics for us to enjoy? so if i don't own a 50mm yet, you suggest to go for f1.4 instead of f1.8 rite?

btw, does IT show or similar shows have promotions for lens??

Don't get Lenses at I.T shows. The price is way expensive and you can't get to check on the lens. Its so crowded. I didn't save any pictures taken with the 50mm f1.4. Tried it at the camera shop, so couldn't do much of testing, except low light portraits.

Thats because you've got a 17-55mm. Haha. 24-105 isn't wide enough for 450D. My sig also has that.

Night shots without tripod bo bian one. Need ISO1600. Strobists are basically photographers who love to use their strobes aka flashes to add elements to their pictures - in this case, the use of light. And to use flash correctly, perhaps, IMO, one need to understand how lighting works.

I am still learning. I only got about 1 month more to my first wedding shoot. By hook or by crook, I need to master the art. Haha! Luckily, I am shadowing in mid-Feb as a 2nd photographer to learn and practice.
