Personally it does not irk me if I see someone holding a 1DsMkII and using it like a point and shoot.

Yah.
Depends on the person. If not yah=yah and acsi borak, then it is perfectly ok. What camera he buys and uses is his personal business.

heh, what's worst is the pro attitude that some people have when they're with pro body cameras. Just encountered one today. Fella was carrying a 1d mk ii and me with my lowly 20d. No one said not to step up on the platform of the stage to shoot. This "pro" can tell me don't go up and guess what-not only did he go up, he nudged(gentle way of putting it) me so as to take the shot. I had my instructions to cover the event anyway.

I'm paid as well, represent an organization and basically i have a job to do, just because of the fact that i'm using a mid range camera doesn't mean i can be pushed around. oh well, so pro bodies do count eh to make an impression.:bsmilie:

The mass of the Mk II/N can be used well to pummel the numbskull :bsmilie:

Now yo have fun with 1D MKII N. Tell us how much you paid so that we can have a reference for planning. Thanks.:)

i just notice both the 5D and the 1Dmk2n LCD screens are on the greenish tint. I only like the 10D/20D screens very accurate.

I haven't noticed any greenish tint to the LCD, but I will have another look at it when I shoot next.

Hi
Now that I have had a chance to have some fun with the camera:

I can highly recommend the camera, but only if you think that the trade-off of performance for weight is worth it. I don't mind the extra weight, and since I tend to be a bit rough on my cameras (I do quite a lot of travel photography and writing) I love the rugged body.

I have just written a fuller review (not as full as I would have liked, but there was no space) for the magazine Tech 3C - pick it up if you want to, it's free...

I haven't had a chance to compare it to the 1D MkII, so I can't tell you the differences, so you may want to think about that one as an alternative.

As for how much I paid: as I said I got my through private channels (so the price I paid is not relevant), but when I was shopping around I was quoted $7,500 at John 3:16 in Funan and $7,800 at Allan Photo also at Funan. I don't know if the price difference was based on some extra goodies, like CF cards, but it is definitely worth shopping around.

I'm off to the UK on Saturday, so I hope to be able to play with it some more...

you have to compare with the 20D side by side to notice that there is this thinge of green hue on the LCD, try custom WB and you notice immediately, esp indoors.:)

We can swap cameras for a while so you can do a comparison to the 1D2 is you like :)

EOS-1D Mark II N only costs SGD6700 in Japan! Like u, I paid a premium in Singapore as well! :(

i guess the premium is the extra warranty that gives you a nice peace of mind.. ?

i mean if i'm already spending a few k on a camera... what's another k to make sure that if it fails within a year, i have a warranty to fall back on?

of course, the $1k difference is definitely tempting.. :)

If one has enough money I think there is no reason why others should pass snide remarks about acting pro or not. Yes, I will shake my head in disbelief for a while, but then stranger things happen in weirder parts of the world, and I know envy when I feel it. I can live with a little tinge of envy without it getting the better of me.

Well said! I couldn't agree with you more.

Cheers,

i dun think we can load custom curves on the 1Dmk2n anymore, the green cast is apperant on the LCD screen, not on the actual image.

I'm not sure either with the MkIIn regarding custom curves, but I do know that you can load new Picture Styles - probably just a matter of time before someone creates one that corrects the green cast problem.

From what I have read the green cast affects the embedded jpg for the preview and also if you actually shoot in jpg, but as you rightly point out not the RAW image.

I compared my 1D2 screen against the 20D, but the only difference I noticed was how much brighter mine was - I'll see if I can spot the colour cast next time I get a chance to compare...

one day, we come out and compare the LCD screen colour. Find a 5D user as well.;)

I agree with u, dSLR body cannot do without local warranty. My 5D has been going in and out of Canon Singapore Service Centre.

Something I dun understand is why consumers in Singapore have to pay more? This is not fair, its not like the Japanese (or Hong Konger) are not getting local warranty support for their cheaper selling price sets wad!
