This makes a good walk around lens for size and weight... very easy to carry around. I would suggest against putting on a filter... you'll make the lens appear 3 times bigger!

Been wanting to get something in between 30 and 50mm, the sample pics here are very positive for the 40mm. Thinking of getting this or the ef 35mm f2...decisions.....

Got from TK Foto at a price less than CP with a $20 filter.
Using it on 5D MkIII...no complain.
AF quieter than 50mm f1.8 and wider too.
Don't expect too much on a $200+ lens.

At the price, its an easy impulse buy... it was an impulse for me too. I'm sure it'll be easy to sell if the post-purchase 'high' goes south.

Lens brings more pleasure than mobile so just like our belief that it's better to invest in lens than in body, I say get the lens

Hmmm.... I'd say get the Galaxy Note 2. It is far more versatile than a 40mm pancake. Looking at it another way... the technology of mobiles are just about obsolete the day you buy them. The technology of lenses lasts about a decade or more so obsolescence is far slower.

Best price i heard so far.... it is $260 at TK Foto.

Not really. It is comparable to 50 f/1.8 but slower when you change focus from infinity to near field. And AF tracking is very bad
