I just got my hand onto this little guy. It's stunning! I'm truly impressed by its capability despite the size. I also have the nifty fifty but the pancake has won me over. Recommended!![]()
raydio said:Yes it's a great little lens with big capabilities. I picked one up at Cathay last summer and never regretted it.
Just bought a brand new local set today. Price has dropped nicely to $230.
After taking a few shots.... My god. It is really solid for such a small lens!
Can bring this lens out and keep in bag, in case my 85L is too near for family shots!
Picked up mine from Cathay Photo, my regular store!

I bought mine when I bought the 5D3 last summer from Cathay. It's a great little lens and so easy to transport in a small pouch in my kit bag so it goes everywhere with me.
So now i bring the "Fattest" and "Slimmest" canon lenses with me all the time. One is super fat and muscular (85L) with whole aperture full of glass, and one super slim (40STM) with a small aperture, with a lot less glass, compared to 85L. What a funny combination?
Same thoughts and usage. My 85L stays on my 5DIII all the time, but sometimes need a slightly wider lens for family shots, and grab the 40mm STM from pouch and good t cover those needs. Super sharp and seriously, didn't expect this lens to be so sharp and good. It is sharper than my 24-105mm and thus now keeping my kit zoom at home.

I supposed the "slimmest" will be the eye candy and garner more attention?? LOL
Haha... Maybe. The 40mm is really slim and looks cute on the big 5DIII. Maybe it really will garner more attention as some may thought i forgot to fix on a lens?
