Canon EF 24-70 F4 IS L

Haha, it's true, your muscles already well-trained and toned by your 1DX. I think not many people will choose to bring a 1DX for a holiday even if money was not an issue. After my last trip, I told myself my gear must be lighter the next time I travel.

Smaller yes, but lighter not really, I really can't feel the difference of 200 grams to be honest, having handled both lens.

Maybe I'm too used to lugging my 2.8 ii with the 1DX around to really feel that 200 grams is going to make a huge difference.

If you are used to 1DX & 24-70mm f2.8 II... what is 200g???? lol.....

To be honest, I'm so used to the weight that it feels strange to travel light. 2 bodies plus 2 lenses worked out just about right for me.:)

I wouldn't switch for the F4 IS in any case. The one extra stop and the sharpness of the 2.8 brother works great for me...

Now, if only the 14-24 would come about faster.

Is this 24-70f4 supposed to be a kit lens for 6D? But there's nothing at Canon SG website for this kit set?

In Japan Canon sells it as a kit since last year.

Was quoted $17xx by TK yesterday, slighty more expensive than the older but longer range 24-105.

It's expensive because it comes with the pinch cap !

How expensive can the centre pinch lens cap be?

The price of this lens will most likely drop slowly... much like 24-105 f/4.

However, while the 24-105 lens is optically weak ~ 70 mm, the 24-70 lens weakness is ~ 50 mm, a far more important focal length for my use. If I eventually purchase a 6D kit, the 24-105 will most likely be my pick.

I am still deciding between Canon FF and Olympus m43 systems... Size and weight are my biggest considerations.

Sharing some picts taken with 24-70 f4 IS. Not bad - bokeh is swee, contrast is good, flare control yichiban, IS sibeh useful. Got macro somemore. Can buy lah.
