Hey guys i just called ms gimmi an hour i will confirm with you all the price straight from ms. They said "price just drop, you call back later" wha! Now i am excited! Yes yes yes! Den end of year become dirt cheap like 400D den can get extra lens. Ok come back in an hour to tell you guys the news

How do these prices compare with HK's?

40D is unlikely to drop in listed price for a few months.
They would rather bundle a few more freebies - sometimes useless, to make up for the price difference.
The previous listed price body only $1799 was there since Apr. In June they bundled the Philips digital photo frame - which was a good deal, if you wanted this frame.
If our fav shops sell it for $1410, that is very close to the current US price.
Drop further and it will hurt 450D sales.

But it's very difficult to increase their prices once they have decreased it. Ok i am no pro in SLR prices... But with knowledge of other stuff, prices should not increase again... And at 1410 it's reasonable... But still able to go lower... Just my 2cents. Again... This is a noob's opinion so please! Dun shoot me down...

I'm in agreement with you that the price wont increase.
And certainly a further price drop will be welcomed. No one knows when that will be.
Now is a good to time to get since the price just dropped (just as the D300)
As you are waiting til end of year, do a price assessment again in a few months.
Btw my price is a guess, not a valid quote.

I think this is just the first-off initial reaction to the canon price drop. I say wait for a day or two more and then we'll see the final settled price.
