Sorry lah, typo. Didn't know NIKON has D40.

Btw, how is the 18-55IS & EFS 55-250IS KIT? My freind say kit lens are 'junk' compare to the old Canon LENS which I had for film type SLR.

Woah you said you were into film slr before? Then i guess you should know more or less of the pros and cons =) Other than the digital terms.

I personally think that the kits lens are quite alright, had takened keepers shot with it =)
I wouldnt use "junk" to describe them, maybe to more experienced users, the built and quality cannot outshine a high end "L" lens , but hey! Thats what you get for 190++ over thousands over lens! So i think its definately worth it on the basis of cost is to quality ratio , plus the quality is quite there too! My take is you should try out the kit lens first, the 55-250 quality is said to be similar to the kit lens' . My only take for the kit lens is that its kinda slow for low light and night photography . Since the learning curve for DSLR is quite fast, its good to start of with a above average kit and find out what you really need rather than getting all straight :bsmilie:

18-55 IS f /3.5-5.6 has quite alright IQ , is light and affordable!
Dont go with the BBB virus!

Maybe some pictures to prove my point =)

not pro shots .. just the nicer ones =)

Price won't lie since they are both same brands. If you can afford the 40D, go for it! If budget constrains than 450D.

Expert or amateur does not matter IMO. Cos amateur will learn from mistakes to improve, expert will get better!

Sorry if i am at the wrong thread coz i am still new to this forum and figuring out.. kekeke... Can i just ask.. the price for a 2nd hand 450D had risen quite alot for the past few weeks.. why is this so?

I feel value is in the beholder. There are other aspect other than $$$ value.

I feel that i have not gotten the best value from my 450D, cause i have not attained the Jedi status to photography. research and buying magazines add to great value.. participating in this forum adds value too.

Value also can be tot as time spent on the camera or like in any hobby, in this aspect my 450D has kept me busy and interested in taking pictures so far since last april. purchasing more and more make the value $$$ increase? HAHA!

Seriously, buying the 450D at that time for me was the right choice as it had fit my skill level and my budget, had no vision of upgrading till i stumbled to this forum...it's poison being here.

But now starting from a photography 1years course then, of course i would have bought a 40D or now the 50D. I feel an upgrade is coming.:nono::devil:

If you want to get a 450D.. get the 17-55mm + 430Ex II. my recommends. If no $$$ get kit lens 18-55mm but still must have 430ex first. my mistake was getting the flash months down, when i really got one i realised of the tons of scenes i could have used it and rescued. Remember that Singapore is very often gloomy dark. Most important shots are with family indoors, birthdays and weddings.

ok.. thanks for your reply..

correct me if i am wrong..

kit lens 18-55mm is the one that comes with the body right? which is under EOS 450D kit w/ EF-s 18-55mm f3.5-5.6IS?

430Ex II is the additional flash that you would recommend right?

I 3rd that! just too many things to learn here! ;)

40D has 10M but 450D has 12M pixel, isn't 12M better than 10M?

Based on this question, I will recommend a 2nd-hand 350D or 400D + kit lens. Let's be realistic.

Megapixel is not always the gauge to how good a camera is, its more than often a lure for ignorant people out there thinking that higher mega pixel is better, more than often its dependent on the optics of the lens and the sensor resolution power.

If you think that higher megapixel = better, you can check out the consumer point& shoot, alot of them have comparable if not higher megapixel than some DSLR available;)

Do some research alright?

cheers!

I finally bought D40. Thank you.
