Save for the depth of field.

... so am i right to say it works like a 1.6x digital zoom?

it's not the same as the digital zoom of consumer digicams, cos there's no associated image quality penalty that comes with it.

Hmm... yes of course! But in terms of optical properties, only depth of field is different from having a true 1.x times multiplied lens.

thanks for all the info and advice... I have decided to wait till the d60 & S2 Pro to be out before I commit to buy. But everytime I look at photos of the D30...sigh...feel like rushing down to buy it...;)

But just have to be rational and maximise use whatever that I have now . Also heard that Nikon may be coming out with their own F80 body difital camera...dunno whether that is true??

I'd consider it unlikely because the S2 is already based on an F80 and would be in direct competition.

I know it's been said, but consider also. The D60 and S2 are going to be another 4 months each, at least. By that time, there will be possibly another one or two major new cameras... and then the issue becomes, should I wait for those as well?

How many pixels do you really need? If the D30 will do the job now, the D30 will still do the job after the S2 or D60 are released... and even the S3, S4 etc as long as the camera holds up.

Hi

be aware that images from digital SLRs need a bit of work in post processing to bring out the best in the photo. If u're expecting high quality images shot in JPG mode straight out of the camera without post processing (aka the film mentality) that's not going to happen.

Just thought i'll let u know first :P
also, while u're waiting for the impending PMA announcements, you can read up on post processing images in photoshop, or frequent dpreview's forums to learn how pple use their various DSLRs and how they deal with their images..(colorspace, monitor calibration etc - it's a learning curve u cannot avoid)

i hope u get the DSLR of your choice soon :)
