I agree. think abt it, they dun have to give dealers a cut if u buy directly from them instead of at a shop. they might earn even more from the privilege purchase program!

just order my 500D 2 days ago, recieved an sms from someone today saying 500D currently no stock, new shipment coming in 2 weeks, wil update me once the stock is in.

not sure who is that, i suppose it is from Canon. did anyone recieve such sms?

so if they sms me again stock is in, does that mean they reserve the stock for me, or is it a first come first serve basis?

Sometimes it is sms, sometimes they called.
As far as I know, kit 2 (18-200) will come after 2 weeks.
If they said stock in, definitely when you go down, you will get yours.

Just collected my kit2 today. I don't think they will keep ex-stock so need to order first and wait for the stock to arrive. Anyway, it was a short waiting time for me.

CPL and UV are total different type of filter.
For a normal 'protection' filter, a UV filter will do, can be a clear filter too. Clear filter can be more expensive. Hoya UV filter should be fine.

UV are quite cheap, so no harm buying even if filter size is 82mm, can protect lens why not.

CPL is different, so sexpensive, even more so on big big diameters.

Sexpensive??
UV filters aren't cheap actually, those cheap UV filter are either uncoated UV filter or filter that don't filter out UV rays but sell as UV filters.

go to 4th floor canon service centre at harbour front
get a queue number (press repair button)
when your turn, tell them you like buy a 500D under the priveledge purchase program.
then pass them a used canon camera (any condition).
they will ask you to fill in a service report (name,address,ic,phone,company name etc)
they will ask you to wait for 2 weeks for call/sms for collection.

that is the process, while waiting, you can get yourself a cup of coffee/mocha etc (FOC), located behind the waiting area.
