Canon 7D Mark II - Specifications

I have the 7D too, and find no reason to get this... but I do wanna consider the 6D....... for the FF.......

Kind of disappointed with 6D too... price is 'Ok' when comparing with 5D MkIII of course... but the Spec is just disappointing... SD card with only 11 point AF ?? Might wait for the 'Tech-Unicorn' EOS 3D (suppose to see the light of day end of the year).

If u look at the Canon DSLR lineup, there is actually a certain pattern that their crop entry level dslr gives and pro entry level dslr offers. Same applies to their Canon full frames. I think 61 AF points doesn't sounds realistic as Canon is always quite stingy at offering AF points. Probably more than the usual 19 AF points but dun tink it will 61 AF points. I do agree with bro CamInit that ISO performance probably NOT as good as 5D3. Given the smaller APS-C sensor, it would probably be better than the old 18MP sensor in terms of noise suppression and image quality.

My two cents ^^

Not sure if D7100 is a right match for the proposed 7D MKII.
D7100 is more like the proposed 70D.
7D MKII is in a different class alltogether. It will be the best APS-C camera . A beast of a camera.

Its just my openion and ........... Canon has not yet announced either 70D or 7D MKII so I can be wrong.

A reason to finally sell off my 1D4? Hmmm....

on contrary, another reason to keep my 1D4.haha
iam only appealed by its MP and 61 FP.
but still can live without them. :)

may be the base price comes with one AF points, if u need more just pay says USD30-40 per per AF point till total 61 then the price will be higher than 5d3 which has the same 61 AF points but lower FPS, lower mp, no wifi/gps, no built-in flash and single digi 5

The New 7D Mk2 will not have features better than 6D, or else who will buy 6D?;)
So I assume that the NEW 7D mk2 will have:
1) Same number of AF points ( Can't be more than 5D mk3)
2) 5 Cross-type AF (just add 4 from 6D)
3) 21 Mega-pixels (can't be higher than 5D Mk3)
4) 1 CF Card (Can't be like 1DX)
5) No Wifi ( Can't have the same like 6D)

Can't think of any break through technology.........
Oh, add the new Digic 5 processor, not Digic 5+.

Remember, in photography theory....
Less is More.

I know spec is not that great.... but for shooting portraits and still... it is good enough for me.....

I agree... since not every type of shoot need speed or lots of AF point....

Not sure why... since taking up photography... I have yet felt the need/urge to get a FF camera... of course FF higher cost is a factor, but I have yet got that 'Itch'... :bsmilie:

I have been blown away by BOKEH.... F2.8 @ FF...... that's why I am itching.... and for my type of subjects... that makes a big big differences........

Of cause it depend on what you want..... and for my subjects... it is really pronounce.......

The current 7D already has all 19 cross type AF.
The full frame sensor of 6D or 5D already a selling point.
e.g. 5Dmk2 vs 7D. From few reviews and had owned both cam at same time before, and to me it seem that the main winning point of 5Dmk2 is it full frame sensor.

I think that Canon is making the 7D2 perfectly suited for sports and events professionals. The only difference with the past offerings from Canon is in the sensor... APS-C vs. APS-H. If the rumoured specs are correct the 7D2 exceeds past offerings (1D2 & 1D3) in AF points and low light capabilities.

i concur on this. also look at what AF capabilties nikon can offer on the US1200 body.

The 7D is a sports and wildlife camera, the APS-C version of 1DX
The 6D is a FF entry level, somewhat like 650D
The 5D3 would be matched to the 60D or upcoming 70D.

So there's loosely, a one-to-one equivalent between the FF and crop versions.
:)

70D and 60D is not even a match for 5D3, lol.

1DX is the result of the merger of the 1D line with the 1Ds line, providing both resolution and FPS+high ISO performance of both lines.

7D was designed to be the cheaper alternative to the 1D4 while 5D2 was aimed to be the cheaper alternative to the 1Ds3.

When the 5D3 specs was launched, may credited the 5D3 to be the poor man's 1DX, as it sports many of the 1DX core features and sporting half of it's max frame rate at half of it's price.

If the 7D2 indeed has the same 61 AF-point array as the 5D3 and 1DX, then Canon's intention is clear. Those who cannot afford the 1DX can have two options. If you need the benefits of FF, such as for studio and portraiture work, go for the 5D3. Those who need the fast AF and high FPS, go for the 7D2. If you happen to need both, you can still buy a 5D3 and a 7D2 and have almost all the main benefits of the 1DX, but it's still cheaper.

Agree 60D is not a match for 5D3, as in not literally, but both are still mid tier versions for crop and FF series. 60D has been complained as a "downgrade" from 50D whereas 5D3 has improved over criticisms of 5D2 so things are always fluid and evolving. Rumors that 70D will address 60D's shortcomings and put it back to 50D's "standing". Maybe the 70D will be closer to being literal 5D3 crop equivalent. Who knows for sure? :dunno:

Based on Canon's strategy, I don't think so. What kind of specs do you have to cramp into 70D to make it earn the moniker of "5D3's crop equivalent?"

It will be difficult. 5D3 is the only DSLR that has the same AF system as it's flagship DSLR. There is only one other time a Canon non-flagship camera having a flagship camera's AF system but it's in the film SLR days. When it was launched, many agreed that the line between the 5D series and 1D series has closed up significantly. The same AF system rumored to be on 7D2 has yet to be confirmed and even it's true, I see the reason behind this strategy as explained in my previous post.

It will be quite difficult to see a 70D which specs so good that I can call it the 5D3's crop equivalent. Just look at the 6D - how much Canon has taken off from the 5D3 to make it an entry level FF camera. Do you think 70D will have the same 61 AF-pt system? I doubt so. Same level of ISO management for an APS-C? If 7D2's rumored ISO improvement is true, then I doubt 70D will be as good as 7D2 in order not to cannibalize on 7D2's sale. There is still a chance since if 7D2 is possible, then technologically it can be possible for 70D, but if Canon wants it or not.

What about swivel screen? It's a big selling point of 60D. If 70D keeps this feature, then weather seal is compromised. Dual card slots on 70D? I doubt so.

I think Canon has always been clear in their product segment (it's a double edge sword). Even for the 5D3 - on paper it doesn't seem to be a big deal compared to 5D2, but 5D2 and Canon users will understand it's significant improvement once handling the 5D3. It may not be much, it is usually not much, but sufficient enough to address the concerns of its users and will stop at a point to prevent cannibalization of sales from a higher end product.

Same goes to 70D - personally, I expect Canon to bring it back to the expectations of previously 50D users, and maintain it as a XXD line of product only, and maintain at that level of pricing.

And don't forget - 7D line is supposed to be Canon's King of APS-C - they won't be so stupid to build a 70D that kills both 7D line and 5D line sales.
