Canon 70-300 F4-5.6 IS USM L or 100-400 F4.5-5.6L or Sigma 150-500 F5-6.3?

i just got my 70-300 L this evening . gonna go try shooting with it tmr afternoon or so. anywhere in singapore am i able to get a 3rd party tripod collar? the original one is gonna burn a bigger hole in my pocket.

Im keen on getting this lens and the 3rd party tripod collar too. Can Pm me where u got it and the price pls? Tks! :-)

am intending to get 70-300L as i am interested to shoot birds and street. Issue is my cam is 600D. Kinda feel the lens is overkill on this cam.
Any thoughts or advice?

U mean the lens us too big physically for a 600D?

300mm is not a "overkill". In fact for birds it's prob way underwhelming. U need 400mm & above usually for birding. Unless all u intend to do is shoot birds in the JBP or common birds like crows or pigeons

There is no kill like overkill. That said, I'm using a 70-200L MkI on my 550D and I'm loving it. Of course, I have a battery grip improve the ergonomics.

yup, was sketical abt the weight and size of 70-300L if its mount on my 600D.
Was thinking of bg to improving the ergonomic also

My 70-200L's about 300g heavier and my 550D mount is holding up pretty. However, I use the tripod collar as the strap mounting point as it puts less stress on the mount, as opposed to letting it hang with the strap on the body. Also, whenever possible I carry the whole thing by the lens, sometimes, I even cradle the thing.

SKIP that.

You can get a brand new local set under $2K easily. Check out shops like Cathay Photo, TK etc, you will see them in the range of $1.9k plus.

And yes! This lens DEFINITELY feels good and solid, and grip is great.

I'm using this on my 550D so the 1.6x or 1.5x makes it suitable for birding. Although its pretty front weighted, It Doesn't bother me one bit. You can get it from Cathay photo at 1900 to 1970 and 1880 at ms color .

Are you able to post a pic of the lens on your 550D setup? MScolor price for it is attractive

Using it on a 1.6x crop sensor is still ok.

you will only catch big birds.....I am using 500mm + 1.4x on crop body it is still not enough to capture small birds, let alone a 300mm. If you want street and bird in the same lens...get sigma 50 - 500. Otherwise I would opt for 150-500 OS sigma.

Agree...IT Show always sells more costly so better to get it somewhere else. I got mine last year at TK Foto for only $1930 inclusive of GST.

If you don't mind used unit, there is one going for 1.5k - 1.6k at BnS. Pretty good price :)

Then all the best for your find. If u found it, u've the same setup as me!! Well, except mine's not a MK II.

Yup I've noticed the similarity too!

While I have the MK II, you have more skills than me, I'm just a baby learning to walk ;p

I had the opportunity to try the 150-500mm last week. Not sure if it is due to the weight, but I can literally feel the difference between the OS of this lens as compared to the 100-400 IS. It is noticably better on the 150-500mm. In addition, I can't see any difference between the IQ of the 150-500 and 100-400. Guess that makes the 150-500mm a pretty good choice for those on budget. (even though the price is not really "budget" to begin with ;p)
