So what metering mode should I use? I still cannot not get the hang between the modes...

I usually use spot metering for stage performances.

Read this wiki to have a better understanding on which mode to use.

PMed you my Flickr

For your situation, if you just wanted to concentrate on taking your daughter, a longer prime, either a 135f2L or the 200f2.8L will be better. Use spot or partial metering modes, metered against your daughter only and adjust both ISO and aperture to suit but shutter speed try to keep to a minimum of 1/200. You must be in a steady position/posture to prevent handshake.

Thanks for the advises....will try the techniques.

All the best TS! Let us know how it goes!

Yes, good luck. I've shot stage performances with my Canon 70-200 f/4 IS with some success. I know that the f/2.8 model would probably be better but I've managed to get some good results using some of the techniques mentioned already. Only one other thing I can add that hasn't been mentioned so far.... don't be afraid to increase the ISO to 1600. It may get a little noisier but that can be easily controlled in post processing.

Post some photos of your successes. Again, good luck.

does the 60d have any compatibility issues with some sd cards? im getting the canon recommended class 6 or higher sd card for hd video recording. i went to the sandisk website and selected the 60d for "SanDisk Product Compatibility" and no class 6 cards showed up. there are only class 10 available. class 6 cards are under camcorder cards instead. will i face any problems if i were to get a SanDisk Extreme® HD Video SDHC™ 8GB Card ? :(

I haven't heard of any problems as long as the card is class 6 and above. Once you buy and test, let us know if any problems develop. :)

alright. i shall be contented with a class 4, for now, while scouting for a class 6. they are pretty hard to find.

Should be able to find them in Funan Mall. I'm not sure which shop would be best.... perhaps someone can help out and recommend a shop to buy a class 6 SD card at a reasonable price.

Not a very significant difference, unless that 2MB/s difference in transfer rate is very crucial to you.

I believe that the Canon 60D requires a class 6 or above SD card for video. I don't do a lot of video so I don't have that much experience in this area. If I'm not mistaken, anything lower than a class 6 causes missed frames.

Anyone else with more experience care to comment? :)

Thanks for the insight :D I enjoy surfing CS because there's always something new to be learnt =D

Hi,
I used a black kingston class 4 card for taking short clips (less than 2min) on my 60D and I notice that the card access light blink every second (approx.). This seem to indicate that the camera buffer can store around 1s before it's need to write to the card and able to transfer the data before the camera buffer full again.

By the way, FI, I do a simple test (copy a 3GB file to the card and record the time took for 10 times to get the average write speed) on my black kingston class 4 4GB/8GB card and they all can write at a speed of more than 8MB/s, but I notice one of my previous blue kingston class 6 is actually slightly slower than the black kingston class 4 card.

Have a nice day.

For me there's no perfect camera. 60D is also a great camera for those who are filmmakers also can use backup if you have 5DmII or 7D. I'm just bit disappointed in 60D because the White Balance button is gone.

interesting.......the blue sandisk 8gb class 4 card that came with my bundle is so slow that it can only record 720p 60fps for 8 seconds. care to elaborate more about the class 6? how long can it last per clip? im considering whether to get a 8GB class 6 or class 10 now. :dunno:

IMO for Sandisk with Full HD recording, Class 6 is already sufficient Class 4 is out of the question since they removed FullHD video recording recording from it.
Class 10 has faster transfer speed as compared to 6 but also cost more.

my 2cents :)

not much use for the SET button so i program it to choose white balance. maybe can work it out that way...
