I feel like 50mm on a cropped sensor like 60d is too tight for me...will get a sigma 30mm or 28mm one instead[/QUOTE

Considering the 1.6x crop factor on the 60D, the 50mm lens becomes 80mm. A 28 or 30mm lens makes much more sense.

ive checked a few forums and some reviews on sigma lenses. there seen to be much love and also much hate for it. lens flares and slow af? how do you guys find sigmas? i see that many of you are using them...

I used to have a Sigma 10-22 f/4.5 which I liked very much, but I sold it to finance a 17-40L for a full frame camera. I am definitely interested in the Sigma 8-16 for my crop camera and may buy this lens in the future.

Three years ago, I almost bought a Sigma 150-500 and tested it several times. Decided against it and bought the Canon 100-400 instead.

I don't mind Sigma lenses but I've heard that it is hit and miss with copy variations... some are good and some are not so good. I don't know if that reputation is deserved or not. :dunno:

@ icychilled

wow. you were right. i just came back from my trip down to mustafa and canon link at vivocity, 50mm on the 60d feels kind of awkward.

I think you'd be better off getting a midrange zoom lens or if you are into primes, a 28mm or 35mm.

hi raydio! is the EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM considered a midrange zoom? looks pretty good to me........

Yes the 17-55mm f/2.8 USM is a midrange lens and is considered one of the best for a crop camera like the 60D. You may also wish to consider the 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM which is also rated very highly by users and professional reviewers alike. On the up side is has a wider range than the 17-55 but the downside is that the aperture does not go as wide as the 17-55.

Both are very good lenses for the 60D! :)

perhaps i will pair the 60d with the 15-85mm first, get to know the 60d better and buy the 17-55mm next time. starting afresh now. was on a nikon before this. canon seems quite different. i will miss grid lines in nikon viewfinders....

Coming from Nikon will make your experience a little difficult at the beginning until you are used to the ergonomics of the Canon 60D. But once you are used to it, I am sure that you will be very impressed with the IQ and handling of the 60D.

The 15-85 is an excellent lens. Some say that it is better than the 17-55 for the 60D because it is newer and designed specifically for the recently launched models of cameras like the 550D, 60D and 7D.

Glad you've joined us in the Canon camp, but why the switch from Nikon?

haha. thanks. i dont like how the nikon feels and sounds. im planning to do hd video recording and nikon doesnt have much to offer in this area imo. i think the 60d is perfect for travel due to its articulated screen and unparalleled hd recording.

Looks like a good bag. I am most familiar with Lowepro. I use their TopLoader bags when walking around town and their backpacks when traveling abroad. Here is the Lowepro website in case you haven't seen it yet:

It is best to check out the bags at a store before buying. Cathay Photo has a good selection of bags and so does T.K. Foto Technic. Perhaps others will advise of other shops to check out.

Wanted to buy a Nikon D7k at the shop. Somehow after trying for 10 to 15 mins, find the Canon 60D to my liking. Bought it on the spot, so far so good. Very happy shooting here & there. Still learning as i am a newbie to photography.

My 60D already comes with firmware 1.0.8 which they claimed to be the new firmware.

I am not too sure what has changed from 1.0.5 though.

Congratulations on your new 60D! I'm sure that you'll enjoy every minute of owning it. :)

Yes, I've heard that some newer cameras already have this firmware. Others that have had their cameras serviced/cleaned at various Canon Services Centres around the world have had their firmware updated by CSC Staff.

thinking of buying the 60d body plus a sigma 17-70lens. Want something better than the 18-55 kit lens but not too ex. reviews seem to like the sigma.

The Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 OS, is a very good lens. On the downside the corners are a little soft at the 17mm f/2.8 setting with high vignetting. Other than that, the optics are very good, the build quality is above average and the OS is as effective as Canon's.

Coupled with the Canon 60D, I think that you would have a winning combination! :)
