Hahahahahah in the end buy of all them and that is the best solution. You can never overwrite the others, There will always be pro and con, suit wat u like and don't waste time on it. Shoot the best picture u have and post for all of us to enjoys:bsmilie:

Which one would you go for? I know it's quite hard to compare, Canoners will say 5D and Nikonians will say D700. Imagine if you're neither, and it's your first step to full frame, which would you go for?

Well, I'm a Nikonian myself, but the thing is... I've heard many people switch to Canon for the 5D Mark II, haven't heard any people switching from Canon to the D700.

If we want to consider about image quality, A900 is strong contender to choose beside 5D2 and D700.
A900 is the best of both world that the money can get on that class.
Very high resolution and great color rendition like slide film are the key..

Also, after the price increase of Canon/Nikon, the Sony lens is nice choice too ;p

hmm, probably i'll jut stay with DX for a few more months, maybe the choice is easier to make later on.

I'd go for D700, because I already have Nikon lenses and don't want to spend too much. :p

hmm.. or put it simply this way, is the 5D Mark II that good that I should change system? I'm already a Nikon user.

so when Nikon replaces the D700 with something that is "better" than the 5D2, will you be switching back?

There is little point thinking about the "better" camera if you don't even know if its better for you. You'd be better off using what you have.

I think you should consider staying with DX for a few more years if there is no compelling reason to go FX. DX cameras are capable of producing excellent output too. Canon 400D, 40D and Nikon D200, D300 are excellent DX cameras.

yes, but i've heard so much good stuff about FX.

Not just the better camera, well, many have been saying it's worth every penny to switch to the 5D mk II. even if it takes selling all the gear and jump ship.

looking at the sample pics, it's not much of a difference, except the size.

hmm.. yes, i think staying with the DX will make good money sense, especially when the decision is so hard to make.

When I wanted to decide on the brand of the camera to choose between Canon and Nikon, I look at their history too.

When Canon move to EF mount, they make all their existing FD mount lens becomes obsolete and anger many existing users.
Now, when they make EF-S lens, they make sure it cannot be used on EF mount camera.

For Nikon, they make sure most of their lens still works for the current digital camera. The great old manual lens are still trading in the B&S. Nikon make sure your investment is protected.

Although the D700 does not have the megapixel count as compared to the 5D2 but their AF, CLS, Built-in Flash Commander Mode is more important to me.

5D2 is a great camera and I can see many carrying it but to me Nikon is the brand to trust.

Well said. It is not a laughing matter if thousands of dollars worth of lenses become obsolete overnight. For me, I buy Nikkor mount lenses with confidence. My 15-year old Nikkor 35-70mm lens can still be used with my S5 Pro (D200 body), AF and all!

For this main reason, I'll stick to Nikon.

To the person who started this issue,

Are you confused enough? Who do you want to listen? Ha ha ha......

I'm Canon user, but I choose D700! :D

i views are :

1) if dont need video, d700
2) if need more rugged body, d700
3) if want cheaper creative lighting option, d700
4) if need 17mm tse lens, 5dmkll
5) if need good video, 5dmkll

+1 for dennis,

was a converted canon, once switch, never look back, the dark side is too overwhelming

higher dynamic range vibrant colors, better flash system cls and well calculated exposure never miss a shot in multi flash, the solid made well furnished bodies and lenses well resistant to scratches and feel great in the hand, lenses range are fewer but very thoughtfully made with the japanese spirit in it just like the 14-24, 84 1.4 remarkable sharp and sweet

sorry i'll be sounding like a nikon ad soon.

my main reasons why i changed over is i figure why do i have to pay the same amount of money yet get lesser af points, plastic body, no cls, lesser frame rate just for the sake of higher megapixels?

i only miss the portrait skin tones of canon. i will say if you are a pro, shooting for a living, mainly portrait photography, require to sell print ads, the 5dmk2 might be a better choice.

but still i will go for a sony if i die die have to switch from nikon, carl zesis is more than a poison :sweatsm:

cheers

What about the 5D MKI?

5D vs D700

If you need only 12 mpx - Either camera!

If you want CLS - D700 (But you can't sync more than 1/250 anyway rite?)

If you don't mind ISO3200 max - 5D

If you want to pay less than $2000 2nd hand - 5D

If you don't mind a slightly weaker AF system - 5D

Other than that D700 is definately a better system since it's newer.

I purchased my 2nd hand good condition 5D at $1800, so i feel very satisfied with it.

there are no good and bad camera..
and there are no good and bad handling camera or etc....

Camera and lens is a tools to helps you to catches the photos that you wanted.
taking a good photos is still the user using the correct tools and knowing how to use it to produce a nice photos.

If you keep thinking this brand-X camera is good compare to brand-Y...
but few years later...... that brand-Y is getting better compare to brand-X.... that you becoming itchy wanted to jump ship again.... like that this will be never end....

Just my point of view.....
jumping there and jumping here... is not fun at all...

decided to stay with DX for awhile, wait and see. Also, right now, other commitments have stopped me from paying the price penalty for FX. :(

Ya, it's good to wait a while. Save up a bit more, then upgrade to D3 later.
