When I wanted to decide on the brand of the camera to choose between Canon and Nikon, I look at their history too.

When Canon move to EF mount, they make all their existing FD mount lens becomes obsolete and anger many existing users.
Now, when they make EF-S lens, they make sure it cannot be used on EF mount camera.

For Nikon, they make sure most of their lens still works for the current digital camera. The great old manual lens are still trading in the B&S. Nikon make sure your investment is protected.

Although the D700 does not have the megapixel count as compared to the 5D2 but their AF, CLS, Built-in Flash Commander Mode is more important to me.

5D2 is a great camera and I can see many carrying it but to me Nikon is the brand to trust.

I switched from Canon to Nikon due to the CLS and AF module. Nikon pass the good stuff (51 AF pts and metering module) from the pro series (D3/D3X) to the semi-pro/DX bodies (D300). Canon will never do that as they want to protect their 1D/1Ds series.

To me, Canon marketing strategy is to make you spend more money by constantly upgrading. Another case in point, Canon make sure that most new cam bodies uses new batt types. E.g., 5D and 5D MKII are different. 400D and 450D are different.

For Nikon, u can use ENEL3 for D80/D90/D200/D300/D700.

Well said. It is not a laughing matter if thousands of dollars worth of lenses become obsolete overnight. For me, I buy Nikkor mount lenses with confidence. My 15-year old Nikkor 35-70mm lens can still be used with my S5 Pro (D200 body), AF and all!

For this main reason, I'll stick to Nikon.

I had seen the light and switched to the Dark Side...

Totally disagree. Ergonomics matter a LOT.

Who really cares about CLS? I've seen people try to emphasize that their shots used CLS and they still looked bad. CLS will not make you a better photographer.

12 vs 21? 12 vs 24? How big do you print?

Fast vs. slow... in what sense? FPS? How often do you need to shoot a burst like that?

Video? Eeeh. Up to you if it's of value. To me, it has a long way to go and really doesn't matter to me. I'd rather they not charge me more for a feature i won't use.

Ergonomics, have nothing to do with the neatness of the button layout. But how well you use those buttons and how quick they are to getting the job done, thats what ergonomics is about.
If you can maximize CLS, it is a cheap solution to a off camera flash. No it won't make you a better photographer but it will give you alot more to work with if you do have a off shoe flash.

Fast vs Slow. In every sense. FPS, focusing, file sizes. ?
I was not making any remarks stating which camera was better, but giving the TS a solid, quick and easy view of each unique features about both of the cameras.
