Canon 550D

The xxxxD xxxD and to some extend the xxD are hobbyist market, they will always be ppl who wants to upgrade to the latest and 'best'. The xD market, on the other hand, is where teh users will tend to use the cam longer - even though new models are out. It is hence important, marketing wise, to keep popping out new model for the market otherwise you'd lose to the competitors. The little differentiating factors are also more important here - I have the same sensor as the 7D, bigger screen, better digic processor, can beat any pro cam etc. All just to hype to up the ego of the buyer if you ask me :D

oh brother i so agree. its all gimmicks. but if u actually put the xxxD against xD to the test in the field....xD thrashes it easily. ppl said 500D got the 50D sensor...but its not true if u go deeper into the engineering. same size sensor dont mean same sensor. the density is different. it's all marketing - the words they use. but then again...xxxD is attractive for the size. i like to look damn noob, so if my photos turn out bad, i can say - i only noob wad. haha!

If you are using the 10D example, a more accurate comparison would be to compare prices of the 10D when 20D was launched. If 10D was indeed $700 cheaper than 20D (when 20D was first launched), then yes, I agree with you if I feel that the additional features in the 20D is not worth $700. We are not comparing apple to apple bcos they are different cams. This is not a debate between buying a new 20D or a used 20D for a lesser price.

of cos we r not comparing apple to apple,
thought that was obvious seeing from the beginning
we r comparing 550D to 500D.

i lost my cams at that point of time when 20D was introduced.
i could get replacement(10D) or the latest offering (20D).
brand new for both bodies than was a difference of $750.
went for the latest as i feel its worth the difference.
when i finally let go of my 20Ds,
the lost was higher than the cost of the 10D.

u want the latest, u'll hv to pay for it.
there is no way any tech staff thats the latest offering the best value for money.

ps- went thru my post, didn't find anything i said referring to used cams.

The 10D -> 20D upgrade is more significant than say, the 20D -> 30D upgrade. Mostly because the 10D doesn't take EF-S lenses. So I feel you made a good move then.

I have reached the stage of Nirvana as far as camera acquisition/upgrade is concerned. :bsmilie: Two bodies: one main, one back-up. That's all I need for the next 5 years which is also the length of time I use each of my laptop.

Think I need only couple more prime lenses and then I'll be done too... Guess I must be Canon marketing department's worst nightmare. :bsmilie:

of course.

BBB crowd in the world way bigger than the ones who are not in that crowd. :bsmilie:
Once you get a DSLR:
30% put in dry box, never use much
10% use the camera as it is
60% joined the BBB club even without subscribing
^Of the 60%, more than 90% surf clubsnap, which makes the BBB syndrome even worse. :bsmilie:

Haha.... interesting.. :bsmilie:

If the rumored 60D forgoes the Megapixel race and instead comes with an amazing Low light sensor that gives clean images at 6400, I will join the BBB in a heartbeat.

i've made a vow to not spend on anything related to photography til dec. i'm trying to stop the BBB syndrome. haha! overspending on photography. initially i juz wanted a 1000D + kit lens. And i thought that was expensive enough already. after buying and selling...i ended up with my current set up. wasted a lot of money doing the buying n selling. sighs...

i doubt 60D will come out before the d90 replacement. canon is always like that.

Am gonna stay with my 500D. Thank God I bought it last April and not recently. Will target xxD next time. Maybe 60D?

lol true. 500D is excellent already. love the size. infact was thinking of selling my 50D for a 500D for a few mths already. but then again, it's quite crazy.

It would be best that you don't look at the IQ of the 50L, 85L, 135L in portraiture.

oh man, those lenses produce out of this world bokeh. but nah, not today. not right now. I'm settled for now...actually there's a cheaper alternative for me...50 f/1.4. however, i'm juz waiting to see if canonrumors is right when they say that the 50 f/1.4 II will be released this year. and if so, wait and see the quality of it.

hmm...now u've just gotten me started on thinking wad lenses to get in future...........

Waiting for 550D... Called a few shops but no news....
Canon SG website not even updated. lolx

Japan site says available on 20-ish Feb, Canon Europe says March.

Psst, search for the RARE Tokina 50-135mm F2.8 if you care. Great price, great lens, great bokeh, slow in focusing.
But worth it.

Sigma has a similar lens with slightly infrior lens quality & built, but with HSM motor price near 1K. 50-150mm F2.8 HSM.

At least I got my 50, 70, 85, 100, 135mm covered by the tokina lens @ F2.8.

care to share when i can find this RARE item (toki 50-135mm)?
